interesting take mate....
it's been a little heated on here all summer for why I know not. the sense of community within the forum group is certainly being challenged at the moment and a lot of the hostility has little worth. a lot of the threads seem to end up sprawling in a direction that they weren't intended and a lot of opinions are getting taken out of context to the point where it would seem an argument is what was wanted.
I know a lot of people on here in person and can safely say that I wouldn't back up a word they said if I disagreed with them, and I think that's the real beauty of knowing people, however, I do feel it's only decent to respect people you don't know and not act like a complete prick purely because you don't know them....

I must admit I like having a laugh and a joke on here , I have never taken this forum too seriously but I think a lot of things get taken out of context on here at times as its done by text , when I say that I mean sometimes things come across as rude when it's not meant to be I'm sure I'm guilty of this at times. All in all the posters on here all seem sound ,the beauty of football is that we all see the game differently , wouldn't be no point in having a forum if we all agreed with each other , I also love a heated debate sometimes and there are some really like minded posters on here , so it's a good fit !

Pretty much sums up how I see it. There have been posters in the past that I've been 90% sure they must be Sh1!heads on the wind up with some of their comments though. There's some new ones around this season who seem determined that what we've got is a crap side that is going to struggle. I personally don't see it that way but I do respect the other posters on here no matter how rediculous their posts might seem because we've all got an opinion and are entitled to it. Our squad was the third best squad last season behind Northampton and Oxford and we did ok against both of those sides. In the second half of the season we were pretty much unbeatable and we gained momentum as it drew on very much like the season before. We are 1 down 45 to go. I'm feeling very positive that the squad will push on again, keep getting better with the odd addition here and there and we'll keep improving. That opinion is based in what's happened gradually over these last two years. History tends to repeat itself in most walks of life and footballs no different. For years we flirted with relegation and it was only a matter of time before we dropped out of the football league if big changes weren't made. We lose our first game of this season and there's lots of people calling for big changes. We are on a roll and we've got momentum on the pitch and off it. Big changes aren't needed, just a gradual improvement like we've been doing, and that's happening. People need to chill.

Big changes aren't needed, just a gradual improvement like we've been doing, and that's happening. People need to chill. Patience is in very short supply on this forum. I read both forums and this one seems to have either younger members or the moderators tend to allow more latent aggression, that is my observation but saying that, there is more to read on here and I notice that it seems a lot less hostile than when I last lurked on the old OF. As for the team, what I feel went wrong was DC raising expectations in the recruiting front by saying he would bring in X amount of players and we felt that should have been done before we started the season. I know there is still time but I think that any players we did bring in would have benefitted from the pre season and in bonding. We HAVE to remember that this is Bristol Rovers and that we need to keep it real. We have had a fairytale happen with Wael and family buying the club and achieving much more than we dared to believe and yet some still won't allow themselves to be happy, as if they believe that we now should expect everything to happen and in double quick time. I believe we will see changes in stadium staff and the match day staff plus we have very good people that are given the brief to attain the stadium. Patience is needed and is the key to much of what this forum suffers from but we are not alone. Look on most clubs forums and you will see a mirroring of this on here. Forums arw rubbish ? Yes, at times. My uncle just blocks people who constantly try to pick argument with him. There may be something to that. He says that his forum time on the other one is now much nicer due to that. Being upset and insulted in a choice I guess. Just choose not to be that way and take control by not seeing posts that persistent offenders make. I tend to lurk more that I post. It's easier that way for me

I do see what you're saying definitely, but it doesn't apply to everyone. There are some good people on here

Internet forums in general seem to breed pompous know alls and petty joke making characters, that's just a fact of life.

If there's some good people on here they must be lost. Not the sort I want to mingle with.

Lot of great comments here. Transfer this to the terraces though. Most fans are there to support. But there's always some clown who feels the need to loudly & ostentatiously demonstrate their superior knowledge & appreciation of the game to all & sundry. Why they aren't managing Man U, Arsenal or Barcelona beats me.

I am interested to understand how you know who, or who is not a representative sample; most of us, simply let our Gas hearts rule our brains, so in my opinion, the common denominator is we all Love the Ga:, consequently, sometimes we are just not going to be that rational. Why can't posters be rational though, it doesn't take a second to work out calling fellow Gasheads are "simpletons" is out of order for example? Or demanding DC signs 3 players today when we have no control over what he does/what players are available to him?

Well reading the matchday thread you do wonder if some posters have a split personality, you know the ones they continually say 'in Dc we trust' & then attack anyone who agrees with DC that we need to sign 2 or 3 more players. They'll also point out this squad was good enough to finish 3rd in L2 last year but god forbid you if you wonder why Billy Bodin (in the second half of last season one of, if not, our best player) isn't starting a game. Incredible to read at times.

Sadly with forums its the way it is. There is no minimum age and its an ideal place for cowards who can hide behind a user name and insult people. I find it frustrating when a serious thread descends into posters sexual habits, I don't find it shocking just boring as at my age I have heard it all before and its the same with swearing, but that's just my opinion. I like the fun element the genuinely funny posts and the banter, but a forum aint gonna please everyone.

Irony at its best. Have you thought people 'vanish' because they have a life outside of gaschat, unlike others..?
