The reason we don't drive on the right hand side of the road is due to us not being invaded by Napoleon. The act of driving on the right (horse and carts here) was a practical and symbolic move in Paris and was spread around Europe during his conquests. I thought it had something to do with holding weapons in the right hand and therefore travelling on the left made it easier to defend yourself with your weapon in the right hand? nah it's because were Bristolian and we'll drive on the side we want |

What many think of as London with a population of 6m+ is more comparable with the West Midlands or WestYorkshire as a collection of urban areas with separate local authorities, rather than the "City of" Birmingham or Manchester, etc. For us it would be the former Avon area, which we are partly returning to with the metro mayor idea. It would have a population of around 1m had North Somerset joined too. |
