The Bristol Children's Hospital Matchday Thread

In homage to Nobby's spa treatment and SteveK192's match report, I thought I would do one for a recent stay at the Children's Hospital.

On Boxing Day my son was taken poorly with a very high temperature. For someone with his condition it can be dangerous so I called 111. After a few hours we managed to get an out of hours GP appointment (being Boxing Day it was extremely busy) who promptly referred us to A&E.

Arriving at A&E around 9pm we were seen very quickly. The staff there were very thorough and his treatment good.  It did mean though that he was not ready for a ward until the early hours and we eventually found ourselves settling in at 5am. I was awake again 2 hours later trying to get my son to have his medication.  It is surprising how well you can function on little to no sleep and no food.

So after nearly two weeks of treatment for what became known as a very nasty chest infection he was finally discharged. Still unwell but enough to come home where it makes it easier for us all.

scores are;

111 service  - 6/10 this is purely due to the scripts that the initial call handlers use. Any diviation and they struggle.

out of hours GP - 5/10 pretty obvious by this stage but an important part of the jigsaw

A&E - 8/10 they were great and stayed with us throughout. It did help that this was a priority case and having been there for less significant illnesses this could be lower for some.

Ward staff - 8/10 they were very nice and helpful, the doctors could be difficult to pin down due to being on call for emergencies but the nurses were in general always on hand and some felt apologetic when I did some of the caring (as the parent I felt this was for me not to be delegated)

physios - 9/10 MOM very brutal when watching them work but it did wonders and it is difficult to criticise with the results they achieved.

Ancilliary staff - 9/10 these were the cooks and cleaners who ensured the ward was clean and the food arrived when needed. The ones I met were great and enjoyed a chat.

Ward - 8/10 very comfortable with single en suite rooms. My only gripe is that the shape made it difficult to manoeuvre equipment round. Oh and being woken 4 times each night when they come in to do their checks.

Parking - 3/10 it is absolute pants. It was mitigated only by the fact we have a special pass to stay longer than the permitted time.

Work - 9/10 they have been very understanding and flexible.
