And if he'd have gone to Oxford as a result? Your telling me that there aren't other incentives we could of added to his contract to protect our investment and not end up getting shafted further down the line? Even if it ends up to be £1m, city will know that it's loose change and if he can produce in the champ then that value will be 5x that in no time Such as?

Matt T and his agent had the club over a barrel and we were lucky to keep them for an additional 6 months. If we tried to enforce a tighter contract then he would have left us then for free.

At the end of the day Taylor owes us jack! He has been a great player for BRFC. We move on. I'm guessing if the fee is "undisclosed" it will be minimal, as no one from Rovers will want to be embarrassed. If the fee is published, it may just be a good bit of business.

Personally, would rather have let him go and got someone in the summer than received £300k with one day to replace him.
£300k doesn't make sense though. Bids of up to £1m have been turned down for Bogle, why wouldn't they come in for Taylor at a third of the price?

It can't be £300k because half the forum members since the sumner have been saying that's absolute rubbish everytime a few of us have mentioned it.
Didn't need to be ITK to realise Taylor and agent had us over a barrel in the summer.

I think he's making a stupid move by going there, but had we sold him in the summer we wouldn't have had his 16 league goals. A replacement would have had to bed in so unlikely he would have got near that amount. Without those goals we could be in an uncomfortable position in the table.

IF it happens I just ask for 1 thing - for BRFC to end speculation and tell us how much they got for him and if it was a release clause and no-one else interested. I realise it's usually secret but not this time please

There's a X 10 clause if it's City.

I rather he had gone 'out the back door' than over to those inbreds. Brave man if he does.

bottom line is...
Matty earnt very little from football until this season. he's 26.
If you sign a contract and stay at a club you miss out on signing-on fees, unless the club give you a loyalty bonus or something similar.
sadly this is a good way for him to make money.
personally I think it's bonkers that a player with his record could go so cheap (not a million miles off Cureton & lambert sales), and to a relegation threatened team but sh** happens. I find it bizarre if no-one else is interested in him but clubs spend millions on others. Bizarre. Similar to lambert.
BTW - let's be honest, it is partly about money. I always felt Cureton left a bad taste in the mouth because we got to little for him. Whereas even if Roberts was a similar situation (rumours of wanting away...) it always felt better that we got a lot of money for him, and Hopefully (!) that at least kept us afloat etc.

I don't think it is either. I know he's not infallible but DC is no fool and would look daft joking about £10m knowing that Matty could walk for £300k. Lets look at this realistically....
£300k to any of the Championship teams is peanuts. So, if his release clause was that small then I am sure there would be many more interested parties.
Of course, I could be totally wrong.....
HOPE that is true. it's certainly logical. But football defies logic sometimes.

Can't blame him for wanting to secure another season in L1.

Just when you think football has got more logical (moneyball etc) and everyone knows who the best scorers are (look at MT's minutes per goal - they are staggering) weird stuff like this happens. ditto Rickie Lambert - why were Soton the only team really interested in him? Joint top scorer in lge 1 with a staggering 29 goals. free kick taker, pen taker, leader, scorer, assist maker, header, shooter. BTW - fed up of Bogle talk - the time to 'find' him was when he was in non-lge, not now. any fool can look down a list of top scorers in Lge 2 or Lge 1 and then go out and buy him. ditto andre grey, dwight gayle, etc
