I will make an offer to you, there is a Tote End Old boys get together planned for April,if it definitely goes ahead I will invite you to come, you can make that comment to me and deny that there were turncoats....you will be laughed at by a few dozen old blokes who were actually about in 76. It's not 76 now though is it ? I'm referring to you saying that gasheads would switch allegiance if the sh** got to the prem , I'm categorically telling you right here and now that me my family and my gas mates wouldn't go and watch those bunch of lady gardens if our lives depended on it . As I was born in 83 I can't comment on 76 I will have to take your word for it. In regards to making a comment to your face I'm more than happy to mate , my name is Alex and I usually have a drink or two at the welly on match days and I'm there from 12:30 onwards , I'll even buy you a pint !

I agree with a lot of your post, the bloke has financial security for life with this transfer,he could retire at 30 and never have to work again, gone are the days of players staying loyal to a club for years and then having to do a cr@p job until they are 65 just to survive. The biggest laugh is all these loyal 'gasheads' slagging him off ,loads of them would be turning their coats and getting down AG if city got into the Premier league the same as loads did in 76 ! FACT.I repeat, if you think this is a FACT then you sir are way wide of the mark, it may have been the case back in '76 or whenever you are on about but that means feck all now (over 40 years later) and I personally say you are well wrong now and there is no possible way you can state this as a FACT. Were you about in 76 ?...I am guessing NO.....as I said loads turned their coats then and they would now! OK it was a FACT then, but as city havent reached the Premier league I cant say FACT yet....it would be though!

No, I was born in '74 so wasn't about in '76 so honestly can't comment on anything that happened then, but I have been going since 1982 and can categorically state now that I don't know anybody who would 'turn their coats' and go down to watch them just because they made the Premier league, also the same as okebournegas I would happily come to the reunion up the legion and say anything you want me to, to anybody, and happily listen to how things were THEN, but that was THEN, not now, you may be stuck living in the past but I can assure you the very large majority if any or loads as you put it would not be off down there, and if they did I wouldn't really class them as gasheads anyway.

The old days of people supporting one or other team but wandering along to Ashton Gate or Eastville for a big game are long gone.
In today's world of tribalism and Facebook likes and loyalties and bitter repercussions if you post a selfie of a Rovers fan at Trashton, it just wouldn't happen.
This is WAR nowadays, although thankfully it's more on the keyboard than from the brick.

You say that you dont know anyone who would turn their coats, we didnt know they would back then but loads did,I cant see that it would be different now,why would it be? btw the 'reunion' I mentioned isnt up the Legion but probably in a pub after a match,I will mention it on here. As for being stuck in the past I will admit to that in a lot of ways, for a start it was more of a laugh and there was more atmosphere in the 70s than now ( you can believe me or not ).

This is WAR nowadays, although thankfully it's more on the keyboard than from the brick. You see thats what I dont understand, you say 'war' but there is very little trouble at football now. I saw people slashed with Stanley knives, beaten with shovels and running across motorways to escape. Up until the 60s people may have watched both clubs play at home but by the late 60s / 70s it had become very different,if you want to understand how it was try reading 'Booted and Suited' by Chris Brown,I think that he shows how the 70s in Bristol was. The sad thing for me is that although its a good thing the violence has largely gone from football matches the atmosphere has gone as well.

I think you are underestimating the support that the gas gets nowadays , surely these 'turncoats' would of walked away after relegation from the football league? We had great support when we were in the gutter no one walked away to watch the sh** and to suggest otherwise is disrespectful to fellow gasheads.

Just to avoid confusion. There is a reunion in Kingswood as per normal I believe. I'm assuming your 'reunion' is a separate affair?

Rovers support was great in the Conference, but city were 3rd tier at the time. I wonder what would have happened if Rovers had gone down again ? like Aldershot,Newport,Accrington etc a lot would have stayed loyal but not everyone. Anyway my point was if city got to the Premier league, thats when some people would switch sides.

I am talking about a get together of Old Tote Enders in a pub after a game,we did it a few of times over the last couple of seasons,a good laugh especially when the lads who emigrated to Australia are home.

Yup a few of my mates did the exact thing, i never spoke to them since and never will, Thing is back then the rivalry was a lot stronger, imo i suspect there will be more crossing over if the sh1t get back to the 1st division now than there were back then

Not sure whether there would be more turncoats now though, lots of top football on TV and high prices at Premier games would put some off,we wont be finding out how many would go this season.

There were still people who went to watch both clubs. More fighting certainly, but then there were terraces to fight on, even though there were home and away ends there were always infiltrators. I actually did watch the sh**e a few times in the top flight when I wanted to see the away side and always in the away end.

Remember more recently when City82 were reported to be after David Pritchard?
Not sure if he or the club told them to f.off, hopefully both!!

Surely it's just football fans not gasheads that would switch?
I know a few casuals who prefer Rovers and go to a handful of games who probably would go watch whoever gets prem football first.
Wouldn't call them gasheads though.

Wouldn't call them gasheads though. Well you will have to define 'gashead' and explain the difference between 'gasheads' and football fans for me to understand your question. The original insult was 'gas head',although I doubt that many on here will understand why,so there were no 'gasheads' in those olden times. I am looking forward to tomorrow.
