Had one of the "big teams" academies reached the final then it would have had FAR more effect as they would have seen that the attendance of the supporters of those clubs would have matched the likes of Accrington and Hartlepool. As it turned out two of the real football clubs Oxford and Coventry reached the final and showed why even a Mickey Mouse cup with the right teams makes it well worth while. If it was just about money then you would have the select of the EFL in it to ensure big final turnouts but for the lower teams in this competition it does mean something..a day out to remember. Long may two LEAGUE teams reach the final of it and that at the moment means to ensure that Academies get given the treatment they deserve and be stuffed out of sight. We could be one of the League teams to get to the final next season, wonder how many gasheads will boycott that game ? It has been reported that Oxford made over £500,000 this season....... look at Blackpool. They have a problem with the owners and lots are not going until the owner goes.
If we got to Wembley in this, I wouldn't go and support this bastardised competition

Will be very surprised if Ryan is with us next season as Stoke want to get experience in the championship. Maybe that lot south of the River may get him as he like this area very much The point being is that clubs may favour retaining young talent to field in the EFL Trophy rather than loaning them out to L1/L2 etc. Don't see that being a good thing for lower league football, do you? I don't see any of it being good for lower league clubs, i just don't think it will ever happen

Funny old world isn't it?

If as you say the leagues will be full of U23 teams , can you explain how these U23 teams are going to get their players from because as you say we will all be out of business and no feeder clubs would be in existence to provide them with Raw talent Or are they going to take over all the Sunday leagues as well ?? We wouldn't be out of business, especially with the finance flowing from the PL. We would just be minnows playing submissive to Premier League clubs. They would continue to hover up any lower league talent and use their U23 teams as playgrounds to develop them. I genuinely wonder whether Stoke's inclusion in next year's competition may persuade them not to loan out Ryan Sweeney to us again. He could get experience playing alongside first team players and would no doubt be a big player for them if they wish to challenge for the trophy. Exactly, the EFL Trophy is already being used as a testing ground for Prem clubs. Look at McBurnie. Played pretty much all of Swansea's trophy games, and they were only interested in loan deals for him after they were knocked out. Players like Sweeney etc. will be used in this sort of competition first and foremost so they can gain 'experience' while training in controlled surroundings at their parent clubs. The EFL Trophy is designed to reduce the influence of FL clubs, including Rovers League inclusion is the end goal of the tournament, and loan deals will become obsolete.

It's a tournement with a big prize that would be a welcome boost to our coffers - we just have to play and beat the team in front of us - that's all I care about Becoming a feeder club for West Brom would also boost our coffers. Maybe we should consider that? Could be worse - we could sell our best player to the sh** - oh wait......
