I'm thinking about buying a season ticket for myself and Mrs Gastropod for next season as we normally attend enough home games to make it worthwhile. We either sit in the East Stand or stand on the East Terrace so I would get East Stand season tickets. A have a few questions that I hope fellow forumers can help me with: - Do I have any choice over where in the East Stand the seats would be?
- Sometimes I take my Dad - is it possible for the 3 of us to sit together?
- What do people normally do if they can't attend a game? (I live 90 miles from Bristol)
Thanks and UtG

Australia 5 - 0 now, looks like Jordan's World Cup dreams are over Not necessarily. Winners of the eight Asian groups progress to the next round along with the 4 best runners-up. However this mauling by the Aussies isn't helping Jordan's chances.

This has the potential to be absolute chaos on friday, most people won't know the situation and will just turn up. I intend to just turn up on Friday and pay on the day to stand on the East Terrace. What is the "situation" I should be aware of? Apologies to chippenhamgas - I thought it was GGMI that warned me... I take back my previous comment about GGMI making a useful post, and thank chippenhamgas instead! UtG

So the innuendo that Board members were making money out of BRFC through the sale of this property was false.

Of course NH could have just paid MSP off himself with a loan from the £20 Million or so he banked from the sale of Cowlin. Not saying he would have but would have been a far more likely scenario than Administration, particularly as he was sat on an asset in the Mem that could have repaid himself and all the clubs debts if sold. In reality administration never likely while we owned a stadium worth £15-20 Million. Add to this the fact we are told there was at least one more credible buyer after the club, I don't think it is true to say that Higgs needed MSP to introduce him to buyers to avoid administration. As it turned out perhaps borrowing the money from MSP did work out for the best in terms of them seeing our potential and pointing a buyer towards us - well done Higgs for taking out a Wonga loan :-) I also firmly believe there would have not been the interest in us without the UWE stadium being as far advanced as it was - assuming it does get built Higgs should at least get credit for getting the project through the planning stages etc, even if does take someone with more cash to turn it into a reality. I think you're being very generous with someone else's (Higgs) money. I understand that at one point during negotiations with Sh!tsburys he threatened to put the club into administration. There aren't many business men who will contemplate spending millions of their own money on a failing business, and Higgs is first and foremost a business man. Indeed, if he was prepared to bail the club out at the last minute, why did he incur unnecessary, massive interest charges by going to Wonga. Logic dictates he would have funded the legal case from the start. Therefore I feel that administration was a very real possibility if the appeal failed, because there would have been a queue of creditors at the door, and for all we know, Higgs liquidity may have not been sufficient to service the demands. What else would he be able to do? Borrow more from MSP and hope, ala Uriah Heap that "something would turn up"? We will never know what would have happened if the appeal is lost and the takeover had not happened. However football isn't a normal business, it rarely returns a profit so running such a business doesn't follow the normal financial motivations. Nick Higgs is a fan so I'd like to think that going into administration would have been an absolute last resort and other schemes for UWE and the Mem would have been found. Your Dickens reference is wrong as well. It was Mr Micawber who always believed that "something will turn up".

is this tongue in cheek or for real ? real Excellent news if true. I remember the day when they installed the old one... - At last, an electronic scoreboard - hurray!
- But it's too small to actually read anything on it! - Boo...
I like this attention to detail in our brave new world.

His Father played for Wales, BB has played for Wales at youth, U21 levels I think Rod1883 - Apologies if this is distracting from the thread, but what ship is that on your avatar?A bit of research with Google Images tells me it is HMS Hardy, a V Class Destroyer, launched in 1943 and sunk in 1944. I wouldn't want to see Tom made permanent team captain at this stage in his career and with a challenging 15 end-of-season games coming up. It should be one of the older professionals. I seem to remember Tom Parkes being made captain a few seasons back and the added responsibility affected his game and then his confidence.

Without NH the UWE stadium deal wouldn't have happened. Without the UWE stadium plans in place the Jordanians wouldn't have been interested in a takeover. Therefore "Thank you" Nick - perhaps they'll name a UWE stand after you. 1..The UWE would have happened even if I or you were chairman at the time. 2..How do you know that? It may well be that the Mem has planning that took their eye as well as the UWE? 3..Therefore, thanks for trying but you were out of your depth and no one threw you a life belt. 1. How do you know that? Getting a new stadium built in Bristol is not easy... ask Lord Pantsdown of Guernsey. 2. New stadium is a necessity - listen to the Al-Qadi interviews 3. So, yes, Thanks Nick.

4 for Parkes is very harsh. I thought he did OK considering the conditions and made 2 great last ditch tackles in the second half. You say he couldn't pass water, but I didn't see many players passing the ball well... something to do with the 50mph wind whistling across the pitch. I often feel sorry for Parkes - the creative midfield players who should be attempting the difficult passes (Lawrence, Lines) often opt for the safe option and roll the ball back to Parkes who has no other option but to lump it upfield. I thought both Parkes and Lockyer had reasonable games considering the extremely difficult conditions - I saw a few passes from your MOM Lockyer drift on the wind straight out of play.
3 vital points from a terrible game completely spoilt by the gale blowing down the pitch IMO.

Rovers were battered by Pompey and 3-1 flattered them. It's been a while since I've seen Rovers on the receiving end of such a one-sided match.
Agree that DC got the tactics wrong. I also assumed we would play the same formation that worked at Oxford with 3 centre backs and Leadbitter and Brown hanging back initially to keep things tight. Instead it was 4 at the back and the 2 full-backs often pushing up to leave large holes at the back. Pompey had the midfield and wingers to exploit these holes. Our midfield was poor and Bodin is not a winger. Lawrence was poor in the first half but improved alot in the second half after Mansell had gone off. Let's hope it's merely case of him needing time to get match fit and build a good understanding with his team-mates.
Still alot of twists and turns to go this season, I just hope we can stay in the mix in the next few weeks so that we are still in the promotion play-off race come April/May.

Thanks Steve for putting into words what I'm too lazy to write myself. I agree almost 100% with what you've written. A terrific team performance against a very good Oxford side. Rovers soaked up a lot of pressure but always carried a significant goal threat of their own. What a difference from last week - great atmosphere as well. UtG

Apparently it was a hoax that got picked up by the Guardian, Mail and Bristol Post. BCFC thought it was easier to confirm the rumour than to explain it was untrue and SC was the man to lead them into the Premiership...
