Energy price rises. France - 4% UK - 54% Guess which people ‘took back control ? Read my post on page 126 of the Government thread to get a clearer picture of France. Oh and the highest residential electricity prices in Europe are paid in Germany.

Going to wigan at Springfield three times in one season in the early 90s First game postponed just before three. Then the second game got postponed going up there. Third time took the supporters coach and both coaches were involved in a accident on the m6. Waited for a replacement that got us to the game at half time and we lost 3 0. That the game we had about 7 or 8 players left on the field at the end cos the other were sent off? I was at that match. Dec 1997. We had 4 sent off and Wigan had 1 sent off. Rovers did their very best to get a 5th sent off so the match would be abandoned but the ref Kevin Lynch was having non of it!

I left Bristol in 1979 so every match was like an away game for me. However one match which springs to mind was kidderminster Nov 2001...God we were dire that season finishing second from bottom of division 3. Thankfully one one team got relegated then and that was Halifax. Anyway Kidderminster away. we went 2-0 down after 60 odd minutes and I left to return to the pub . Driving back to Windlesham after the match had finished on the motorway I had a tyre blowout in the outside lane. Managed to control the car to the hard shoulder and call the rescue service. I to drive virtually the entire way back at no more than 50mph on a space saver spare wheel. While driving I had a migraine come on nearly made it home before vomiting all over myself!!

I have more than my share of Tory voting friends, most vote for them because they believe they are wealthier than what they actually are and wouldn't dare vote Labour as that's what the poor do. On Sunday I was in the company of a few blokes I know, sort of mates I suppose. They're probably your average 'man in the street' in some senses and are generally sound and a good laugh. The conversation switched from working, to covid, to the government in a fairly natural way. One pipes up with 'i'm not interested in the govt parties, sick of hearing about them' (the same guy had complained about lockdowns repeatedly) then went off on a rant about Starmer being a Lawyer and having 2 jobs. Something was said about invading Russia, something else about statues and law and order. All of this whilst watching our kids play football. There were also some anti mask/vax sentiments but I was distracted by my son being cynically tripped. This was 3 generally rational, moderately successful blokes passing the time of day. 3 Tory voters. 'I've met the man in the street and he's a c***' That's a nice way to refer to your mates!

That tweet doesn't show the full picture in France. There were energy price rises of 10% in July, 5% in August, 8.7% in September and 12.6% in October. Yes they will implement a 4% increase in Feb as stated however... EDF is state owned and have been ordered by the government to supply electricity to competitors below market price costing some €4 billion which will need to be absorbed in other areas (as yet not known). Also ever thought it's a coincidence there's a presidential election in April? Please don't think everything is rosy in France. Filled the car up with petrol yesterday at a cost of €1.76 a litre and that's for the cheaper branded unleaded at the supermarket which is cheaper than petrol station prices. Not trying to justify UK prices its a disgrace but don't really see the cost of fuel prices as a result of tory policies. Yes things are bad in the UK and across Europe at the moment. Mortgage prices have been at an all time low for years. Gassy try paying a mortgage when rates hit 14%.

View AttachmentSettle for 4 points from Sutton/Oldham and then beating Mansfield in front of 11,000 who I will never forget on the final game before we lost our league status. NB.If you haven't been to Suttons ground before,Old Trafford it ain't!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't think the new lad from Newcastle will be too impressed but then the Mem is marginally better and never said that before!!!! Been to Suttons ground a number of times. Moved from Bristol in 1979 to Surrey and between 79 and 83 (when I passed my driving test and could drive to Bristol) I used to watch Leatherhead play and saw them a number of times at Sutton. I also managed to get a ticket when Sutton beat Coventry in the cup. You right it's no Old Trafford !

Does it help the economy to rush people into jobs that don’t match their skills and interests, knowing that they’re more likely to be in them for a lesser amount of time, then will be claiming welfare benefits afterwards again. Than to provide more support and give them more time to find jobs that do, which they’re more likely to stay in for longer? Does it help employers that their recruitment pool is reduced, because possible candidates that have left similar jobs are now working in a lesser paid, lesser skilled jobs because they were forced to in order to pay their bills? We’re in a climate where lots of jobs are on the market, but that won’t last forever. Then what? We punish people for not finding a job within 4 weeks when the likelihood of actually getting one within 4 weeks that’s not a low paid one is slim? I see the principle of what you’re saying and I think it’s vitally important to society and the economy that these surplus jobs are filled. It’s a question I genuinely don’t know the answer to and the sort of thing that could do with a commissioned study looking into it. Precisely, sticking an accountant into a care home isn’t the right fix. You’ve got a person forced into a job they don’t want to do and an employer who’s got someone in the role who’ll be looking to jump ship asap. It makes no sense and is just red meat to the Tory right. But what if that accountant can not get employment again in accountancy. He can't sit at home refusing work purely on the basis that he's a trained accountant and that's all he wants to do. Maybe the UK should follow the Dutch system whereby to get your benefits you have to do voluntarily work and give something back to society. When BA pilots lost their jobs to covid a number went to work as delivery drivers.. so it can work.

And what did I say that was drivel? Listen to the BBC news when the numbers are reported. (Not drivel). Numbers reported on following Tuesday can be higher to account for the weekend delay in counting.(fact not drivel). And yes lower figures of 17000 have been reported (I don't know the true figures any more than you do). Didn't see a post from you yesterday when only 57 deaths were reported. So as I say what was drivel in what I said? See Stu’s reply earlier . Yes we all know that there’s a lag in deaths over the weekend but it still over 400 ! Four bloody hundred ! 🙄

Catch up with the weekend numbers. Also even the BBC now state despite 439 deaths not all of those would have died of covid as within that figure there would be deaths from other causes. Not sure how true it is but I've seen figures floating around that the actual death figure from covid itself is more like 17000. The 17,000 figure is based purely on Covid being on the death certificate, it's been roundly panned as highly innaccurate and very misleading as it presumes those who died from underlying health conditions would have died anyway without Covid. Consistency across reported deaths is an issue, that's why excess deaths is probably the most consistent method between comprable countries. Thank you for the sensible reply which is more than be said than the usual 🙄 I get from Yatton.

Gassy the majority of the UK in a poll (which some like to use) agreed that the fuel shortage was not the cause of Brexit or the fault of the government but was caused by the media! And? Didn't a poll in France once say that there were more French who didn't trust vaccines, than those who did? Does that mean vaccines can't be trusted? Whilst I agree that it was certainly driver by the media and the fantastic British panic buying, it is an absolute fact that there was a fuel shortage due to Brexit. When I asked my petrol station near me at the time, they said they hadn't received a delivery in well over a week.. So If it was purely down to Brexit I assume there must still be a shortage because I'm not aware that the UK has rejoined the EU or 1000s of tanker drivers have returned from the EU to deliver the fuel. Deep down you know fully it was down to panic buying and not due to brexit.

Wow 2 reports over 2 years old. Probably no different that if a poll was taken Labour members wouldn't want a oerson of Jewish faith as PM.
