The question of re-developing the Mem only came up (to be skirted around) because no other alternative has been put forward yet. I didn't get a 'We're re-developing the Mem' message from that interview at all, more of a 'We have no idea what we're doing and hadn't thought this far'. I'm not down there with the doom-mongerers but the way Hamer sat there grinning like a Cheshire cat while saying things like 'it's very sad' suggested a bit of a disconnect between his brain and his body. The expression on his face made him look like he had wind and was just there to let out some hot air.

I'd love a redevelopment of the mem, but practically it's not going to be possible I fear.
Too many obstacles to overcome:
- Residents - Traffic - Squeezing in stands in the space - Parking
Having been to MK last year, I was severely underwhelmed by their identikit Stadium

Why not? It's seems to be the only realistic choice.

Residents wont be a problem 2 - Traffic? It's not like more people will be coming to games either way, we have a 11,000 capacity, and sell 9,000-10,000 a game. We'll probably have an extra 1k but that's all. 3 - Squeezing in stands in the space. I'm sorry, what? I'm pretty sure they'll expand the capacity by a couple thousand mate. 4 - True.

He can hardly say there are lots of options after saying there wasn't and I believe he did say there will no doubt be offer that come forward for possible locations. just curious why are you searching Twitter for humiliating post mocking the situation?

Residents were certainly a problem with the sainsburys debacle. If we are extending to say 18,000 that puts us at the limit of what can fit where the mem is now. It's not a huge site really. Plus if we are going for 18,000 I would expect the club to try and fill it and that's an extra 8000+ on top of what we get now. I'd love a redevelopment, but I just don't think it's realistic unfortunately.

This is exactly part of the problem. we need to look past there being a few pubs on Gloucester road. I'm interested in the Gas doing well not the number of pub I can drink in personally.

"I would think so (if we had enough finance to fund Mem development) if the deal was feesable."

I wrote a longish letter to Steve Hamer back in April expressing my concerns about the Mem and saying that it is not acceptable that a club like Rovers playing in league have such poor facilities for the fans and suggesting improvements that could be made to the Mem. Steve Hamer wrote back agreeing with everything I put in my letter, he was still hopeful at that time that UWE would still go ahead, but said that if it didn't then the club would be looking at ways they can improve/ develop the Mem. From the tone of his letter I am not at all surprised the plug being pulled on UWE. It appears that we will be staying at a revamped Mem. I have a feeling that the club does have the finance for a new stadium, if we have to borrow £10 million against the Mem how are we going to afford £30 million plus towards a new stadium.

Notice they already had a NIMBY from Horfield on Radio Bristol this morning, complaining about this in advance. good it's a shocking idea for our future potential anyway. Will go no further than where are already. Realistically the best we ever are likely to get is to consolidate in the Championship and punch above our weight. Just look at the crazy money being spent now, think what it will be like in a few years. The Al-Qadis don't have the financial clout to compete with other clubs at that level. Redeveloped Mem with 18k capacity seems about right to me unless we get some crazy billionaire taking an interest who's willing to throw cash at us. How we're going to be able to afford to redevelope the Mem is anyone's guess...

Realistically we're going to drift around the top 10 of Div 1 whilst DC's in charge and then hope we don't capsize again when he finally has had enough. I could have accepted the news of the UWE falling through it we had a viable Plan B but that could be years off now and will the ALQ's want to hang around that long?
