Someone on here mentioned about the bus station or the old B&Q could be used as carparks and Markets/Carboot. So we're going to buy real estate probably worth £m's just for a car park? You do wonder what planet some of our fans live on! So we were going to buy the UWE and build a cark park on real estate probably worth £m's just for a carpark?

The land has planning permission though. It would either need to be extended for the current design or a different design would require PP, but should be easy enough to achieve given that one has already been passed.
Uwe either have to sell the land for something else, find money to build something else or enter into an agreement with someone to build and get a 20k stadium that will be used semi regularly
So either the UWE weren't being deliberately obstructive or they've got a better tenant lined up? I guess time will judge which one is the case. I can't really see Pantsdown moving Bristol RFC away from AG as it seems to have been a relatively successful move.

They thought they had us over a barrel. We walked away. Good on us. Screw 'em.

I have no issue redeveloping the mem.
But something has to be done about transport to and from the game. As our location and facilities to accommodate masses amount of people is appalling.
Football is moving in the direction where it's a family day out now, not a few blokes with a pint. The Revenue streams we require to thrive not just survive is created through merchandise sales, corporate sales, more bums in seats etc. To do this we desperately need to start attracting and marketing towards youngsters and offering deals otherwise we risk losing an entire generation.

The only reason Lansdown would move the Rugby and build UWE is ego. He has spent millions doing Trashton and the idea of them all playing their is to generate money for Bristol Sport to be redistributed however

I keep saying this............. A smaller stadium for the women's football team, with an integrated arena for the Basketball team, the Badminton team and the table tennis team (all belong to bristol sport), which could also double-up as Bristol Arena Music Venue. With his fortune of 1.5 billion, this would probably cost him one-years interest on that fortune. It would appeal to UWE, and South Glos Council would welcome it as apparently the stadium complex will unlock a lot of expenditure on local infrastructure.....and the boost to the rosy cheeked cockwomble's ego would be immense......think about it, just one years interest on his savings.

"Were" and "did" are two completely different scenarios plus the first was after Sainsburys were apparently going to gift the club £m's, the second will have to come out of the DS' own money.

Current planning is held by Bristol Rovers.... We can also apply for planning on the land if we wanted to water UWE off

Wael did seem genuinely "down" in the interview . He tried to put a positive spin on the Mem but you could clearly see he realises the dream has changed . The UWE stadium site did offer good transport links and a good stadium footprint size which allowed expansion with success in the future. He knows the MEM has limited his ambitions. It will depend on the size of stadium the council and planning departments allow Rovers to build at the Mem site. I suspect the 18,500 capacity of the former plans are the maximum limits the council will approve. Which in reality mean 1850-2750 away seats.(15% for FA CUP...10% premier league) segregation zones ? maybe 150+ seats ? So...about 14,000 regular seats for fans. Doesn't really allow for much growth of new Rovers fans in the future.
BUT !
Rovers don't have to stay at the Mem forever. Northampton town played at the cricket ground then built sixfields and mover there and have recently expanded that. They are still looking to move sites. Scunthorpe utd. are also looking to move to a new stadium. If the mem becomes a hindrance in the future to growth and success the club will move.

I thought the line was there is no suitable land in Bristol ? Where are they going to find it if they haven't managed so far ? bugger all will happen with the Mem anyway. Fell for this crap too many times now. the often used phrase " I believe when I'm sat in it "..... I don't think I'd believe it even if I was sat in it !

I think its more a case of there is no land "we can afford" out there and that the council would allow demolition and full scale regeneration of..out there. For example ...should the finances and will power of a company to flatten the area around Pennywell road, Easton leisure centre/old market (could choose any inner city area) build a new stadium there ,with new housing and outlets and employment. Upgrade the area next to Bristols "flagship" shopping centre. With the money and willpower and foraward thinking it COULD be done...but it wont...this is Bristol.
EDIT: it would also have the benefit of what was once termed europes biggest multi-storey car park just down the road.....

What is the difference if any between re developing the Mem and the term that Wael uses Re generating ? Yep, I do wonder if that is a deliberate choice of words. If so, I would suggest it means a stand or two. Still, I don't think we've managed one of those since the 50's, so would be an acheivement!
