DC has a budget that he feels he is capable of achieving a top 6 spot with. That is different to having a top 6 budget. Thats not saying he isn't going to get more signings in. I think his plan is always see how we go until Christmas & reassess then. Yesterday - “I don’t want to be hearing about the top six, I don’t want to be hearing about that, because we are miles away from being a top six team." Hamer- “In his own words he believes his budget is a top six budget." DC Previously - "I know what my budget is, I know we're not near the big spenders in this league" You've posted this quote a few times on different threads today, as if trying to prove a point that all we've signed is sh**e and we're doomed, if you listen to the rest of the interview he also says that he thinks we've got a stronger squad now than last year, so I take from hearing both of them that he thinks we are good enough but that the two performances we've put in so far haven't been. Perhaps if he'd only sign all or some of the players you recommended multiple times then you'd be happy and stop with the sniping.

Just pointing out the mixed messages and the fact the chairman and manager don't really seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet. Hamer and Al Qadi have also sent mixed messages regarding the stadium fiasco. I rate some of our signings, others not so much - that's football, a game of opinions.

I've just seen the goals for the first time. If we have a top 6 budget, id hate to see what a bottom 6 budget would look like. Just saw the bench for Wigan, most of their subs would walk into our team. This summer was the perfect opportunity to strengthen the side and kick on again. Numerous players out of contract/released and talk of a top six budget. With supposedly wealthy/ambitious owners and £600k banked from the Taylor transfer/Chelsea match last season I expected a lot more than what we've got if I'm honest. How long have you been a Gashead ?? Not very long I hope ! When was the last time we signed a player for 150K ( Sercombe) and another for 250 K (Nichols) plus all these players for the U23s squad. I'd say it was when Holloway was in charge in the late 90s - old enough to remember him ?

Yes it was during Holloway's time in charge, so what?

Crikey. I realise footie fans are quite reactionary, but this is ridiculous. We are 2 games in, that's it, I don't think any judgement can be made on a team for 6 games. I guess this is the new world of social media, over the top about everything in 5 secs in. Do you think any forum in the whole league who lost 4-1 at home would be any different? In my book whether it doesnt matter what part of the season it is, losing like that is not acceptable. Funny how our own manager can criticise, but as soon as fans do other fans hammer them.

I don't believe those two things have to be mutually exclusive (not that I believe our budget is in the top 6 in L1). But playing devils advocate by plucking figures out of thin air, what if this was the top 6 budgets in L1 this season: 1) Wigan - £5m 2) Blackburn - £4.5m 3) Rotherham - £4m 4) Portsmouth - £4m 5) Peterborough - £3.5m 6) Rovers - £2m Wouldn't that give us a top 6 budget, but also a budget that's not near the big spenders?

Maybe. I personally don't believe we have a top six budget or are near the biggest spenders.

2 games in & we've got people writing off half the team, the new signings arent up to it, the budget isnt anywhere near high enough & we've not spent enough. Does that about cover it ? Yesterday was poor defensively but we had our chances especially Ellis at 1-0 down, that could have completely changed the complexion of the game. Far too early to write us off it's a shame we don't have a check trade game this week would have been a good chance to give some of the squad a chance to claim a place for Sat. Assuming we don't sign anyone this week Id go with Smith Partington Lockyer Sweeney Brown Bodin Clarke Sercombe Bola Gaffney Nichols

There's no way we have a top 6 budget. There's the teams you've mentioned and then there's team you've missed who all seem to have a bigger budget than us.
Fleetwood, bury etc.

As for Fleetwood, I'm not sure there budget is really that high. Maybe slightly more than ours, I'm not sure but they dish out a lot of 3 year contracts so can probably afford to pay a little less. They are a very well run club it seems and I expect them to be in the playoffs again. That is who we should be inpsiring to as they definitely seem to mabe making the most of their resources.
Bury have definitely seemed to spent quite abit but not so sure they have spent particularly wisely.
I think Rotherham must have a biggish budget as come down from champ and David Ball left Fleetwood for them.

Credit to Peterborough yesterday, they play well, fit side that defended from the front pressed us high up the pitch and severely restricted any opportunities/attempts to play out from the back. I was hoping they would run out of steam as the game went on but while there was a slight lull early second half, they were back at it after their second went in. Tactically astute, fit and well conditioned. Not many teams will be able to play like that, but we have to find a way to combat that kind of pressing game better. Our care of the ball when in possession was well under par, with far to many poor touches and choice of passes. We gave the ball away to cheap and allowed their pressing game to pay dividends. Once we were two down we had to throw caution and that was going to either get us back into the game or conceded more. I think DC needs to be less loyal to certain players, pick the players to play a system in a balanced way with round pegs in round holes. That would be a start. On to the next game. But except for sinclair everyone played in their natural position? and sinclair was moved to his normal position after 25 minutes.

Just a thought, wonder if losing Steve Yates as defensive coach is one of the problems.

I had a lucky escape on Saturday, I didn't go because my eldest daughter came down for the w/end. That wouldn't have been a nice train journey home, shades of the 1 - 4 at home Newport. But we did return the favour and do them 1 - 4 on their dung heap, we live in hope!

But we did return the favour and do them 1 - 4 on their dung heap, we live in hope! You lucky lucky bugger ! It was one of the few games I actually attend in a season, and this is what I came away with:- I took my six-year old to his first ever game of football. When we got to the Mem, he said, "this isn't a football stadium!". The Mem is a sh1thole, it really is. As you walk into the car park, the back of the Dribuild looks like an old rusty heap. Food - I was stood on the East Terrace, and there was only one food outlet open, with the resultant massive queue. First my son tried a Pasty. That got a loud, "yuk, I'm not eating that!". Next he tried a sausage roll, which got the same response. Finally I settled on a Mars Bar, a small packet of biscuits and a small packet of crisps, and those three things cost me THREE QUID ! Three friggin QUID. Sorry, but that is a rip off. The food situation is disgusting, and insulting. The new pitch was cutting-up quite badly. The PA system is so bad it's unreal. I won't say anything about the game except to say we were out-thought, out-fought and out-played.
