Subsidised travel, if buying a ticket in advance, is standard here in Germany, even for things like visiting the Zoo. Usually even getting a flight from the airport means you get free travel to and from the airport using local transport. If I buy tickets to watch Eintracht, it includes free travel. I don't need to be a season ticket holder. These sorts of things are normal in a working modern city.

Stayed the weekend, bought tickets in advance, showed bus driver my ticket and no charge there and back.

I was thinking that last home game I wonder if the old owners sold up because they were banking on us moving. A great opportunity for someone, call it The Gas and gaurunteed to get custom on a Saturday. "Guaranteed to get custom on a Saturday". Yes 23 out of 52 on a year. Not even half and what about the rest of the 342 days in the year? Oh hang on I forgot, 3 or 4 night matches and the odd cup game, bound to make a fortune from that. That idea can be binned along with subsidised travel and free WiFi! Bideford, There are companies at Glastonbury that make majority of their yearly revenue in the space of 4/5 Days. The cost to rent each plot being quite substantial. A pub would do very well having quite big intakes on Saturday amd the occasional Tuesday for half of the year. Providing they do well on a saturday should see them through a week. If its any good and well presented in sure you might get people going mid week too to watch the 10s of other games games that are in Tv.

I seem to recall a (dis)similar system with season ticket holders in our early days at the mem, a book of 1st bus travel tickets. I might be talking out of my rear end but at my age that is permissable

Not saying its not justifiable though.

Nobody subsidises anything ! Who pays for it then? Nobody. You flash your ticket when getting on the bus. The bus driver doesn't take down any details, and the bus company do not invoice/charge the place you are going (football match/(airport/zoo/museum etc). You just get on, and get off.

If the local authorities are serious about getting cars off the roads and getting people to use public transport, then they have to make it attractive to use. Getting free use of public transport, in conjunction with local large businesses, is a must, especially for things where you can buy the entrance ticket to the venue/event in advance. That bus will go from A to B if there is one person using it, or twenty people using it. The bus driver still gets paid, the bus is maintained etc.

The things to take from the podcast albeit a few years old are... 1) The inclusion of free bus and rail travel to home games with a season ticket. This will be a major achievement if done at Rovers . It will be the biggest counter to car parking fears and traffic congestion by locals. This will be one of the first things to come up during planning for the New Mem. It also means (unless parked at a park and ride) fans can have a drink at the game if they wish. 2)More involvement with fans ,bringing fans closer to feel part of the club. Creating a community feel.Which also then lets the fans advertise the club to others in positive ways. 3) Increasing season ticket sales. Ok the facilities are not upto much at the mem compared to Cardiff and Brighton but its selling what Rovers do have to its best ability. On a side note: I would say the east terrace is always the last to sell out and has lowest figures/capacity in general. This is where the data collection comes in. Use the data to offer targeted cheaper season tickets and supply the facilities that target audience prefer. 4) free wifi at ground. Any need to comment ? 5) pre and post match entertainment. If I was wealthy and owned BRFC I might look to buy the Victoria pub....or others in the locale. That way fans still get their prematch pub but the club get the income.... Did the Vic not close as they were not making a decent living out of it. If the club bought it, we would surely be in the same position. There is no way a few hours drinking by gasheads once a fortnight for nine months would not justify buying it in the first place. There is no way the likes of the Wellie or Annex would survive if they just relied on the trade from Rovers home games, simple as that. Yes I would imagine it would be part of a bigger useage than just pre/post matches...that's why we have a commercial director. With the mem site being small it might make sense to branch out a bit ?

Plenty of room to build some decent bar facilities in the promised rebuild of the Mem, just as was promised in the UWE plans. If the above is not delivered any Commercial director will struggle to make a silk purse out of a sows ear with the present buildings at the Mem.

Seems like a genuinely enthusiastic guy. Hopefully he can do a job improving the image of the club and build those relationships with business, local community.
For me, this another good appointment but struggling to really get excited about the potential of the future until anything Stadium or training ground related is released.

Sounds like he's not just in it for the money. I wonder what sort of pay cut he took leaving Brighton? Perhaps Commercial Director is actually a promotion from being in charge of B&HA marketing.
