Game No 11
Opponents Wigan Away
Lost 0-3
Team Performance Mark out of 10
Slocombe Saves kept us in the game including two superb reflex saves.Let down again by rank poor defending and not at fault for any of the goals 7
MOM
Leadbitter Cannot understand how he gets the nod ahead of Partington,Attacking wise Partington crosses better and defensively Partington is a different class. 5
Lockyer We look totally disorganised at the back and Tom is getting beaten to the ball too often. Both him and Leads are AWOL on the first goal and caught on third but there is nobody better in our squad to rest him. 5
Sweeney Caught out on the first goal although questionable if it was onside and push was made the most of by the Wigan player.IMO was a yellow card offence but it was poor defending by a player who is struggling 4
Bola The pick of the defence and did well despite being left often with two players to mark. Nothing seems to phase him -heads the ball well ,has pace and reads the game- Could he play in a central role? IMO Worth giving a shot 6.5
O. Clarke First half was another case of not turning up but again what do we have to replace him with. Improved second half but still the weakest of the three midfielders. 5
Lines The same as Ollie Clarke in that he improved as the game went on but why doesn't he ever shoot? For 25 minutes in the second half he orchestrated things but for the rest struggled to get the ball. 5.5
Sercombe Battled hard throughout but left chasing shadows for all but the 25 minutes in the second half. Until we start pressing the opponents back four and compressing the game we will struggle. 6
Bodin Couple of magical touches but a luxury we just can't afford when we are fighting an odds against battle. 4.5
Harrison Can't fault the effort and showed some flashes of great skill and ability to run at players but final ball or shot deserted him including a weak penalty and as an out and out striker he is not good enough.6.5
Gaffney Penalised for his first two touches early on, looked OK and can't understand why he was sacrificed when Bodin is not really up for a battle. 5
Subs:
Broadbent Came on and did ok but not convinced that he is a top six player or will be. Slack on the second goal and like more experienced players around him found wanting on the third. 5
Nicholls Another timid performance. Just looks so light weight and out of sorts but when you are out played it is difficult to impress on scraps. the problem is there are no signs of a striking partnership 5.5
Crowd Subdued which is hardly surprising when you play two thirds of the game with little hope. Perhaps we should resort to a drum for these subdued moments when there is little to sing about. Good numbers though. 6
Ref Gave signs early on that we were not going to get many decisions but can be no excuse because we were overrun before the sending off. 5
Wigan Have some good players who play good fluid football and dominant for long periods over a Rovers side that looks so disorganised and almost resigned to defeat. Twenty five minutes in the second half showed they were made to look better than they are. 7
Team performance summed up - The successful teams in this division pressurise as a unit starting with the opponents defence whereas we allow them all the space in the world and then make MARKING look a forgotten trait to the point that we looked totally disorganised as in the first goal and the sending off where Leadbitter and Lockyer are nowhere to be seen and Sweeney is caught completely out and then the defensive wall just sums up the whole performance.
Defence summed up What on earth does Darrell do with them in training? They get dragged from pillar to post, lack the pace to get out quick and look lost every time the ball goes in the penalty area, particularly in the air. Hard to believe
that the club has so many coaches and yet we produce performances like this.
Midfield summed up- For twenty five minutes in the second half we looked good but the damage had already been done
Attack summed up-Shot shy and looks like the goalmouth is public enemy number 1.
Man of Match-Sam Slocombe Kept the score down with some good saves 7
Final Comment Sorry but I am fed up of being thrown the "we have won six out of eleven fixtures" because the fact is Darrell we have lost five league matches out of 8 and have looked in the majority of games
short of quality, numbers, organisation and maybe belief. We have unbelievable support away from home considering that our last twenty away games read P 20 W 3 D 3 L 14 F 17 A 41 PTS 12. That is six projects
out of twenty that have been successful. With two home defeats already this season I dread to think what will happen if our home record doesn't pick up! At the moment IMO it is difficult to pick a team from what
we have to get a result as we are devoid of pace, power and competition for places. IMO Darrell and Wael have both failed us with the summer dealings but I will put my tin helmet on because all I can think of at the moment is roll on January to hopefully bring in reinforcements!
I would love to report that all is well but IMO all is far from well both on and off the field. UTG
