The idea that we would sell player because of a probability that we'll finish mid-table seems horrific to me.
Should fans stop turning up because we'll probably finish mid-table. I don't care if he's the difference between finishing 11th not 12th. I want us to win every game. If a deal is be done, it needs to give us resource to replace AND add. Ie put us in a better position than we'd be. Come the summer, we can look for a free agent if needs be. Guess what? Billy wasn't a bad free agent...

This is exactly my thoughts mate, amen to that! Only way I'd sell is on 2 conditions: 1. Fee must be at least 1m (got to make it worth a replacement 2. All of the 1m must be given directly to DC to spend in this window Otherwise, no deal. Can we really turn down £500K/750K and then let him go on a free in the summer? No, for that price we would accept. But surely no one will offer much more than £100k when he will be free in 5 months time? Blimey if they do then this game is even madder than I thought it was! UTG!

Well apparently Preston have today signed a player for 500k,contract expires in 6 months, never played higher than league 2,but scored 30 odd goals over the last 2 seasons in the Scottish prem(must be sh** hot then).BB is twenty times better than a player that will be soon seen as just a squad filler.

bertram, if the price is true and not inflated by the sellers you have made a good point. And he was awful for Wrexham, wasn’t he? I made an earlier point about PNE not having spent much, perhaps they are now inflating what they have to pay to get players. Am amazed tbh. UTG!

Yes he was crap for Wrexham and they were glad to get rid.He must be in dreamland now,a 3 1/2 year contract as well! I too am amazed as he's suddenly now found himself 2 tiers higher than he's played and they're pushing for the play-offs as well.Cant see him being a 1st team regular so all a bit strange to me.Maybe our PNE friend could give us the story from his/their perspective.

Some disrespectful comments towards Preston on this thread.
They are a considerable step up in quality and status than us if not one of the more glamorous sides in the championship.
I'd chose them over us if I were a professional footballer.

They’re a good club, with a great history. But we should be aiming to get more than I suggest Preston are likely to part with.

Incidentally, I get the feeling he’ll go to a club along the M4.

And as for people who knock Preston as a place to live, well lytham st Anne's is a 5 minute drive from Preston's training facility and is one of the most affluent areas in the north....

And as DC has often said, if the money is right players will go to most places. PNE makes a bit of sense for BB, not the biggest of Championship teams but a great history and excellent ground and probably good facilities. Wouldn’t be too high profile or too pressured and could probably settle in gradually without too great an expectation. But let’s hope not. UTG!

Thanks for posting that. Having just looked at FWP’s website it’s interesting to see that they have been involved with the phased redevelopment of Deepdale for circa 20 years and achieved planning permission for the master plan of Boundary Park in 2007 with the first phase opening in 2015. That should give people a more realistic view of how long these types of projects take!
I was also surprised that the proposal for Scunthorpe’s new ground was only for a 12k capacity. I would have thought that any team with the possibility of Championship football would want 15k to 18k as a minimum.
But back to the main topic, if PNE’s training ground is going ahead then I wouldn’t be surprised if B.B. decided to move for the better facilities on offer. It just reinforces what Swissgas said on the other thread.

Yeah the stadium took yonks but doing it stand by stand meant it was easier to do it that way and it could be financed as time went on through different means. Work should start on our training ground in the spring as planning was granted in August (could be starting now but we have to wait on bloody newts etc etc.) and it should be completed within 12 months of starting. Our owner already owns the land (an abandoned golf club) and is building houses on other parts of the site to fund the training ground.

New training facility has planning permission now too - Fwiw, in regard to that wildflower roof, we should go for something like that on our new (imaginary) south stand, to placate the NIMBYs in Alton Road.
