This makes me wonder why we didn't sign him in the summer when the goalkeeper situation at QPR was exactly the same as it is now and QPR can afford to let him leave. 🤔

We have two adequate keepers as far as I am concerned

Personally, I'd take Lumley over both. No hard feelings, Smith. You've been great recently.

Quality signing for them.
The lad Connor Ripley, who kept the most clean sheets in the division last season, also moved to Bury recently. Another good signing.

Without trying to sound like a wannabe ITK w**ker, DC told a group of us at the sponsors' hour on the open day that QPR wouldn't make a decision before August on Lumley.
DC didn't want to risk another situation like last season where we were scrambling around for a goalie and having to play Mildenhall with his no knees.

And was the right decision, coz QPR chose not to loan out Lumley, by the look of it. (Ingram didn't join Northampton until the 31st August.)

Ripley kept 18 clean sheets in the division last season. On the basis of Bury's summer transfer dealings, many neutral observers were tipping them for a good season. Despite looking good on paper they haven't come good at all. Bottom of the table and lost their last 6 is a pretty damning position. Luck plays a part in injuries, but training regime, tactics and any prior conditions are all big factors. I'd agree Ripley is well fancied - weren't City interested in him? But he'll have to perform miracles to keep Bury up

I sense not many neutral observers know a lot about League 1 anyway! I felt that they made a lot of changes and might take time to bed in, but it looks like their troubles are more severe than that.

I maintain he did make some good signings, but he couldn't get the best out of them for various reasons. Chris Maguire, Jay O’Shea, Eoghan O’Connell, Neil Danns, Danny Mayor, Chris Humphrey, Joe Skarz and captain Stephen Dawson have missed large chunks of the season with injury, amongst others. The keeper signing and the signing of big James Hanson should help them a bit, although it's going to be tough to avoid relegation now IMHO.

I didn't know anything about Bury, but went over to read their forum before the season started and it was full of people predicting doom and gloom on the strength of their prolific but erratic signings, and a general lack of faith in their manager.

QPR wanted 400k for him. Wouldn’t make a decision about a loan so we had to move on.
I prefer a permanent keeper above a loan one, not the end of the world.

Who cares? We've got 2 better keepers now. Afraid I can't agree with that! Smith and Slocombe have been average, Lumley was excellent. IF there is a possibility of Lumley being available permanently then he'd be a great loan. But DC needs to establish a permanent keeper.

It just happened to be Blackpool typical, are next game! We will batter them and not be able to score and lose 1 - 0, Lumley man of the match. Ballbags!!!
