I'd be surprised if anyone wanted to lay into DC, he is the biggest asset the club has. I dread to think who he would be replaced by if he left.
Not his fault but he doesn't seem to have many contacts in the game and/or scouts helping to identify players.
Jesus Christ. Give it a rest. Personally more than happy with DC since he became manager. Today the squad looks together and settled, on paper the new signings add value. Let's sit back and enjoy it and see how the rest of the season plays out. Can we??

When was the last time we had a decent scouting network?

Bodin , Sinclair , Mansel , Taylor the list could go on were all uninspiring easy transfers at the time.
There are just as many who didn't work out, hopefully these newbies will be added to your list but I have my doubts.
We will see some decent new signings on Saturday but unfortunately they will be playing for Shrewsbury.
They might play crap and our signings might play decent ? Glass half empty ?

Omg the negativity of some - DC has proved himself as a good manager / he is well respected in the game and obviously has good contacts as so many managers speak highly of him / he has proved himself in the transfer market and done very well in this transfer window. The 3 players he has brought aren't a result of lazy buying they all add value and quality to a small squad. He has kept his cards close to his chest and I would suggest these players were the ones he had identified earlier and was in extended talks with as both seemed ready to come through ending their contracts with their clubs. Bury hoovered up so say quality and look where they are now as a example of buying doesn't guarentee success. Hirst success at Shrewsbury is no surprise as I feel he is very similar to DC. Let's not forget how well he did with Grimsby when we were both in the conference. It should be a great battle between these 2 on Saturday and I think DC will be more than up for this one as he now has a stronger squad to that one that capitulated so badly at their place

A few posters missing on here this morning who we’re saying last night our board won’t spend any money , DC naive in transfer market , can’t attract any players etc. Looking forward to Shrews UTG
I was one of them, didn't know about Bennett until today but again another uninspiring easy signing.
Uninspiring to you,but how do you know the signing was easy?

Suggest lastminutewinner listens to DCs video on Shrewsbury as he explains Bennett was the player that initially turned him down - your view of another uninspiring easy signing might change unless of course you know and feel you could do better better DC - laughable

I don't know for a fact but cant imagine there was much competition to sign him.
Happy to be proved wrong but he has been rubbish in the many times I have seen him.

I'd have told him to f.off after turning us down previously. Hardly shows a willing desire to be here does it?

Listening to DC explanation it's obvious he wanted him big time so yes he had to forget the last minute midnight rebuff kick in the teeth and be the bigger man by not cutting his nose off to spite his face. Let's hope he now delivers what DC expects of him. Could be the next MC and give us some exciting times as we do like an exciting winger at the Gas

Just explained that it was the Pompey end that he needed to sort as he was contracted, so not an unwillingness on his part.

Well why not say that in the first place instead of 'football politics'? That's the trouble with this club in the media, clear as mud.

Not wanting this to sound wrong, as i do like your tips on players - but if we signed all the players you recommend, we'd have a squad of about a hundred! I don't want us to sign all the players I mention, most I just want us to scout and have a closer look at. If we had done that we could have had players like Charlie Austin, Jamie Vardy, Dwight Gayle, Aden Flint, Marc Roberts and Sean Raggett, all players the club were tipped off about before they went for big money. But how much chaff do you have to go through to get to the wheat? Perhaps we did look at some of those players, but for whatever reason the acquisition wasn't right at the time, or we felt that someone else was better and were unlucky to be wrong. It's like stockpicking, with hindsight investing in Apple in the mid nineties would have been a great idea, but investing in MySpace or Yahoo would have seemed a much better bet. You give yourself the best chances by doing research, but ultimately there's .lot of luck involved, which is why most active investment funds underperform the market.

Or maybe, as I have found out, the club don't like the thought of you doing their job for them.
That's the impression I got anyway.
I used to recommend a lot of players to Rovers but don't bother now, just keep a list of players for myself and see how they develop, and watch on average 3 live games per week.
Early retirement is good!!

And it doesn't seem to have made you bitter towards Rovers at all.

Ricky Miller looked the perfect signing last summer, on a free and scoring goals for fun in the National League but look how that's worked out for Posh. We could all look at videos all day on YouTube and then say this player or that player is good but if it's that easy why aren't posters on here managing an EFL club? Talking of YouTube videos some of the goals Kyle Bennett has scored on YouTube looked tasty, although a guess that counts for nothing given that some obscure player we haven't signed, who'll be sat on the bench at D&R on Saturday, is clearly far more talented.

I remember recommending a player to the chairman of Bristol Rovers but got no reply so I didn't bother again. I was watching match of the day and this lad Chris Ronaldo was playing awfully well for a Manchester team , I thought ,theres a lad who could probably get picked at Rovers. Ive seen quite a few players on my scouting tool , BBC 1 that could have been good for Rovers over the years. Harry Kane , Vincent Kompany , Wayne Rooney , David Beckham to name but a few. But whats the point in recommending them if the club don't do anything about it.

In truth it is much easier for Shrewsbury to sign players-better ground, great position in the League with promotion a real possibility and lots more teams around them. As regards the window as a whole I feel a lot happier than yesterday afternoon where it looked like we were going to see no additions and a whole load of excuses. I just hope that despite some good results we actually see these players start. Squad has a much better look to it now. Smith Bola Broadbent Craig Brown Lines Sercombe Sinclair Bennett Gaffney Harrison Subs Slocombe Mensah O Clarke Sweeney Telford Partington Nicholls This is assuming that Lockyer is injured still. I quite like the look of that team but I think I would swap Partington for Lines, to add a bit more cover for the defence. Incidentally, Craig Brown could have done a job for us 40 years or so ago but I think he may just have seen better days now
