I just don't understand our slow/terrible starts to each season. It's not as if DC clears everyone out and has to rebuild. He slowly evolves the squad on a pittance, and produces some gems, such as the snake and Billy B, develops others like Ellis, and brings in total surprises like Broadbent. Most work. In fact his surprises work better then his "big" signings like Nichols. At the start of recent seasons we are struggling, then get worse, then start to storm it and everyone gets excited. If DC knows how to do what needs to be done, then why does it take him so long to re-learn the lessons from the previous season? I'm not having a go at him, really. What he's done for us is fantastic. I'm just confused about these early season dips that make promotion a struggle. And then the form after Christmas which, if repeated across the whole season, would see us in the Champions League in a few years. It is strange but it’s a pattern that keeps happenening in all the seasons since DCs been manager, after Christmas he must have a great record as a manager! Yet for people of my era who supported us in the late 60s and early 70s it was always the opposite, we seemed to start well but run out of gas (no pun intended) around January or February, it happened in 67, 70, 71 and 72 and nearly happened the year we went up 74 and it certainly happened in 2000. Nowadays we seem to gather steam, not lose it. UTG! Better to finish well than start well though ? It is a marathon not a sprint after all.

Would be great if we could do what we did in 89/90 though. That was the complete season. It always felt like promotion was on the cards from very early on. Unbeaten at home too I think ? Compare that to league 2 promotions we went months before we even won at home. I suppose as long as you do it it doesn’t matter how.

As you said 89/90 was the way to do it! 😀 UTG!

So, 10 games to go, 30 points to play for. Are we going to make the play-offs ? 6 games v the top 8 to come. Who says we're going to do it ? and why (not) ? Definite no from me. We are likely to need a minimum of 2 points a game (that still might not be enough). Plus are run in is tough. Games like last week and Wimbledon away will prove our downfall. These were the type of games I felt we could or should have got more from. We'll finish very similar to last season.

No for me. Will finish between 9th/12th. Like others are saying should have picked up a point at least from Wimbledon and won last week.

No we won’t make it and in all probability it’ll be pretty much over by tomorrow night. The games we’ve left are too hard in my view. Don’t think we are quite good enough , need a decent free scoring striker to have a real pop next season. Hope I’m wrong ! So you've already decided we'll lose tomorrow before a balls even been kicked? Given Muffs injury problems we should be able to at least match them tomorrow In my view if we can get a win in either of the next two games then it'll remain a possibility, as long as Scunthorpe's poor run continues. A win and a draw, or even two wins, and it'll look very promising. As far as the remaining fixtures go then Peterborough's last 5 away games look real shockers, Rotherham, Plymouth, Blackburn, Shrewsbury and Portsmouth, they'll do well to win any of them, whilst Pompey looks the easiest I doubt they'll want to lose the last home game of the season. Taking of Posh I completely missed that Darragh MacAnthony had sold 50% of his Holdings to two Canadians. It seems Div 1 is becoming the new Championship, foreign owners wise. I’m very seldom wrong Topper

Don’t forget Plymouth and derek Adams have form when it comes to bottling a promotion winning position and it was us who took advantage last time. He wouldn’t have been so cocky after the match if it wasn’t for a cheating referee so there’s still all to play for.
