Barry Fry was spot on. DC has been let down; l would not be surprised if the bigger championship clubs come a knocking in the summer. Wael and Waq will do well to hang on to him. Let’s hope they have a plan B. Can't be feeling that let down, he signed a new 5 year contract with us a season or two ago didn't he?

He signed that 9 months ago. So can't feel that let down then? I hope, like you, DC stays; we do not know what promises were made to DC "9 months ago" what we do know is a lot has changed in that time. In fairness, to Waq IMO he did well to keep DC away from signing a contract at Leeds United. DC 's stock is still going up, he has done and doing a brilliant job at BRFC, other bigger clubs will have noticed and I will be amazed if there is not some interest in DC during the close season.

Close season? Wish I had a Crystal Ball!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will we have a re-built stadium announced? Will DC and Ellis stay? Will Nichols score by then? Will Marshfield be on 'Strictly?' At least if Accrington come up we won't have the worst ground in League one!!! Will work on the new training ground begin? Will BT only put their prices up twice? Where will Snakey be playing? Who from the current squad will leave? Will we have a new pitch? Fascinating stuff.

Imo there’s been more backing than ever at rovers. Fry’s comments sound like someone who thought they might be able to screw us out of extra penny’s in the summer- and is a little bitter because they didn’t get the big bucks they’d hoped for.
As for easy to back D.C? Absolute horse manure. It would just be watering in the wind, widening the gap between operating costs and turnover is damn right foolish. We’re doing things the right way for once.
Let’s assume Wael has the money. How much would appetise some on here? And how far would that last? We’ve got to build the club from foundations. There’s no quick fix.

There’s no quick fix. Most would be content with a Play Off spot this season and a chance of another Wembley visit/outside chance of promotion? The ALQ's have spent over £12m so far and not really got a lot to show for it, another few £100K's on a DCM & winger (& a decent striker?) in the summer and we could be right in the mix now not 2 or 3 wins behind the pack. Wael would still be seen as an hero and Friday's game would be a bumper crowd and games v Charlton, Blackburn and Wigan mostly likely sell outs.

DC was supported by the owners to spend money on a "decent striker". It's not the AQs fault that Nichols has been so poor. You could also argue that OC has gone from player of the season material last year to injured and lacking form this. I personally think DC messed up a bit in the summer, and he was certainly supported in January but again he didn't really get what we needed in my humble opinion.

Hence the forum ? as was £300K enough to get a guaranteed 15/20 goals a season striker, particularly when TN has never scored more than 12 goals in Div 1. Think most of us said in the summer we needed another DCM even if only as backup for OC.

I believe DC was backed in both windows by the board and the mistakes in recruitment were down to him. I may be completely wrong of course. I am not all that enamoured with some of DCs signings in the last 2 years. Craig, Nichols, James and Moore particularly. Sercombe, Broadbent and Slocombe have been very good signings obviously.

It seems to me the money suddenly dried up during the summer, DC &SH talked about a list of 30 players, 3 for each position, top 6 budget etc then we signed two first teams goalies, Sercs & Nichols to seemingly support that view, but then we seemed to hit the buffers signings wise. It was particularly odd Monty was released but a replacement never signed. Perhaps it was all a show to sell s/t's early in the summer but that's not really been DC's style. Signings wise James was only ever, fortunately a loan signing, Moore seems to have the ability just not the motivation! Although every manager signs the odd duff player.

I would agree with Topper that the perception was that something happened but I am yet to be convinced it was really a lack of support from the board.
Don't forget that there were suggestions on here that evidence the UWE was going to fail was because of the new pitch and some development players were thought by others to be cheap first team players (Andre Jr for example) rather than spending on ready made players, "proof that Wael had no money".
At the start DC wanted 10 positions filled, Nicholls, Sercombe, the two GKs and Sweeney were the first choices in my view. Broadbent was a Hartley replacement so shouldn't be counted. Whether Bola and Telford were targets or last minute stop gaps I don't know but I would say out of 10 first choice players DC got at least 5.
Moving forward to January he wanted and got a Bodin replacement and more experience at the back plus Mensah. We missed out on Khan (?) but seem to still fail to have that elusive defensive midfielder.
That for me though is DC's choice and not evidence of any lack of support.

The defensive midfield position is a tricky one. There aren’t that many quality options out there to be honest, at this level.
Theoretically we have two good options in Ollie Clarke and Joe Partington, but Ollie’s been severely hampered with fitness issues this year so has been well below his best. It is telling, though, that when he has played, even though he has not been firing on all cylinders, we have been a far more balanced team. Parts hasn’t been able to play defensive midfield often because of Leadbitter’s recurring hamstring injury problems and that issue has been exacerbated further by James Clarke being out for most of the season. Plus, Parts himself has struggled with an injury too.
Had all those players been fit I don’t think we’d have had a problem. Ollie is also the only midfielder we have that allows us to play a 4-4-2 effectively.
What do we do for next year in terms of covering the positions within our budget?
The emergence of Luke Russe may help, but sadly I think it may mean that Leads has to be let go, unless he is happy to stay on a short term contract or reduced wage. I think we may then bring in a right back so we would have the following options:
Right Back: New player or Leads/Parts/J Clarke Defensive midfield: O Clarke/Parts/Russe

I think we may then bring in a right back so we would have the following options: Right Back: New player or Leads/Parts/J Clarke Defensive midfield: O Clarke/Parts/Russe I'd love us to go and sign a defensive midfielder like Funso Ojo, who looked very impressive for Scunthorpe, although he might be a bit expensive for us now. He showed that there are good ones out there to be found. Jay Spearing is on a free in the summer, someone with his experience could be ideal. Bryn Morris is a good one who would suit us and further afield players like Alessandro Mastalli, Robert Gucher and Richard Boateng could do a good job for us. Edit: As for right backs, there are some good ones abroad out of contract this summer like Ties Evers, Matthias Bader, Nils Winter and Juanjo Nieto

With Bola, Telford and Sweeney presumably returning to their parent clubs, I would expect us to look for players to cover and be competition for Lee Brown and Ollie C plus a wide player and a striker.
So four signings plus replacements for any out of contract or sold.
