I just think its down to people who like football and those who dont Is it though? Is there people who would like to go, but don't think they would be welcome?
This isn't about making people do what they don't want to do, it's about making sure people are able to do what they want to do. Seeing if there is a barrier, and removing it if possible.
The Ryanair pay gap is one example. Is it that men want to be pilots and women want to be air stewards, or is there more to it than that? It might be, but what's the harm in checking?

Sad really that our football club would like to appeal to more Bristolians from a range of backgrounds and some on here take it as an oppurtunity to politiicise and denigrate something they’ve no desire to take part in.

As we all have opinions which must be respected I think all this stuff is a load of nonsense. I am being serious now when I say I love everyone so I let everyone do what they want. The best people should get the best jobs.Everyone is an individual and unique imo putting people into groups suppresses them.

When you stop and consider it, there are, as a round figure, 500,000 people in Bristol. There are 2 professional football teams. If you give each club 50% of the total that means each club has a potential 250,000 supporters.
In fact, we realistically max at 10,000, if we get a Wembley final perhaps 45,000 day-trippers will come along. With a new stadium and prolonged success, maybe 20,000?
The S hit, for all their relative success, and with a modern stadium, hover around the 20,000, and draw about the same for the days out.
In other words, of the support base available to the club, the most that could ever realistically be expected to attend as a percentage would be 10%. A tiny minority!
Turn to rugby, the rugger buffers have the entire city population to themselves and their support, in a supposedly rugger city, is even more derisory.
So, I propose we immediately convene a meeting to discuss how we are going to remove the barriers and encourage and coerce the Anglo Saxon and other white ethnic minority groups to attend professional sport in the city.
Someone's to blame, and the sooner we can crucify them and remove the barriers the better.
For over a hundred years, there have been hundreds of thousands of Bristolians who haven't attended a sporting event. It's a travesty. Something must be done.

nobbygas, the poster has advertised the evening as a 'Diversity Discussion'

There seem to be a heavy focus on here that diversity means only BAME. The discussion will be looking at the fact football is for everyone, regardless of age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race or faith and what the club can do to help support all those groups access the game they love.

That's what they are trying to achieve. Why does it need a meeting? The individual can make their own mind up. And one of the factors that they will use in making their mind up is, will I feel welcome / comfortable?

But the Anglo Saxon and other white ethnic minority groups are not underrepresented in the crowd, when compared to the local population. So clearly there's no barrier for Anglo Saxon and other white ethnic minority groups thinking, 'I won't be welcome in a football crowd because I'm Anglo Saxon and other white ethnic minority groups ".

Yes I can understand that, but the point I struggle with is this. If a business wants to encourage more customers to buy their products one option they have is an open day for everyone. Concentrating on a certain group of society makes it appear as though they are different which I don't think they are and I for one treat everyone the same.

Is it because they originate from another country because if thats the case we should have a Polish night or is it for some perverted reason that they are non white? I don't know, I'm just asking.

I believe its about any groups that may have been historically underrepresented at the Rovers, or football crowds in general.

If everyone thought like that there would be absolutely no problem. Unfortunately the world isn't like that. What do think the world, or perhaps we can just say the UK, is like then Tommy. You have people like Tommy Robinson and Katie Hopkins who vilify Muslim's, people like Abu Hamza advocating hate against anyone non-muslim. Just a couple of examples of people who hate in the UK.
