I'd send him down the pasty sheds first! The severe drop in service standards this season show how hard it must be to get people who can count money and handle a paper bag. Sort that mess out and he will be able to get a league winning side together while standing on his head. They even mentioned the long queues on the match commentary last Saturday however the pasties are lovely. Is it a challenge too far for him to be judged on

young players means Academy and probably not recruitment. Tommy will only have been/ and will be looking at over 18 players I would have thought Jodi Jones is 20 and was recruited from Dagenham cool, thought they use their academy an awful lot now as they are skint !

Good news, we needed someone to head up this side of the club IMHO.
Welcome to the club Tommy and good luck!

Great signing, he certainly speaks a lot of common sense, could be the most important signing DC makes; like the idea of him being fully embedded with making decisions about the existing players and arranging loans for those players needing to break-through from the under 23. Welcome Tommy.

Coventry fans seem disappointed.
This also shows commitment to the club from Darrell Clarke.

I am hoping this is all leading to big outside investment over the summer. We are surely setting ourselves up for something, this would all seem a bit OTT if we are going to pitching a few "Go Outdoors" tents around the ground. I think we’ll be pitching the tents because that’s short term it doesn’t mean there isn’t a long term strategy too. Higgs let the club and ground fall apart whilst chasing his dream. Wael is keeping it together and doing his best to keep the income coming in whilst chasing his.

Some comments from Coventry City fans:
"Bit of a shame, it seemed like our recruitment was much improved with him here!"
"On the face of it, that does seem a shame. Can't comment on the ins and outs of it but we've been much more organised with recruitment this season (making signings in Mid-May). Generally the signings have been a success. We can only hope that the transfer policy was mostly down to Robins but I suspect Widdrington was central to it."
"Really disappointed with this as like Nick said, he clearly improved our recruitment. But, at the end of the day he's moving to a higher league, so the pay will obviously be better so can't blame him. Let's hope a replacement is brought in quickly as the transfer window is just around the corner!

In all seriousness, I'm sure he will be open to certain suggestions and tip offs, every scout wants to find the next gem and all leads should be followed up just in case.

Not sure if you’ve listened to his interview yet, but he said he’ll respond to all serious suggestions player-wise and get someone from the club out to watch them. I think you’ll have more luck with your player tip-offs now this bloke is at the club.

I think you’ll have more luck with your player tip-offs now this bloke is at the club. I'm listening to it now. I always thought he was a decent lower league player and he always came across as someone who would end up in a management role. I think it will be a good appointment. In fairness, a lot of tip offs have been passed on via Keith Brookman in recent years and I'd like to thank him for that. Previous to that Martin Foyle was open to suggestions when he was coach here and wanted to meet up for a chat, unfortunately Dave Penny was sacked about a week later and that was that! Lol Good luck to him, I wish him every success in the role. UTG

Looks like a sign that the club are adopting a more professional approach to recruitment. I think DC implied last Summer that he was going to spend most of it on the phone trying to get players in. The appointment appears to signal that DC will not be expected to do all the legwork and that he, or the owners, have appointed someone he obviously trusts and can work with to get the relatively few players we do sign in the door. I think it’s another sign of a more professional approach and even perhaps a signal that DC/ the club realise that recruitment hadn’t been brilliant and was an area that needed to improve. I wonder what his shopping list looks like? A defensive midfielder and a striker perhaps? As with most things, time will tell whether this will be an inspired move, but it is a probably long overdue one. UTG!

Next announcement a plan to match revenues to expenditure. Must be next thing on Waels to do list now he's devoting all his time our way

Next announcement a plan to match revenues to expenditure. Must be next thing on Waels to do list now he's devoting all his time our way But is that really our concern, if Wael wants to build a potential Championship chasing club then surely it's up to him how he funds not for us to worry about it, or would you sooner we just tread water in Div 1 for a few seasons before the inevitable happens and DC jumps ship then we finish up back in Div 2? Regardless which successful Div 1 side matches match revenue to expenditure, Walsall trying to do that almost got dragged into the bottom 4.

Growing any business costs money. We can't be expected to generate an improved income without the improvements (ground/players etc) so we need to speculate to accumulate. I see as exactly that. Our infrustruture has improved no end in the last 12 months and this is a good thing. The biggest challenge for DC will be when he decides not to fill a certain position and trusts this to someone from the U23 dev squad. Fans will find this sort of novel and some will no doubt bemoan any lack of signings.....
There was always going to be a "Lag" in relation to starting the U23 Dev squad and getting some into the first team. The lag seems to be coming to an end and we are starting to see players come through. TW will now have to keep improving that the standard that is in the U23 squad and make sure we keep the flow of players coming through... Oh and keep an eye on that one gem that we all know is out there.......
