A mixed performance but on the whole I thought we did very well. Some of the best football I have seen us play for a long time in that first half and to grind out a win at the end will be a massive boost. We didn't get the rub of the green at all, ref/VAR were very unfair with their decisions. Southgate is actually doing a very good job IMO. He’s obviously been taking tips from DC about allowing the opposition to score, to make them feel like they should go for it, and then punish them in the 90th minute. However there were no manly beards on show which is clearly an area where England can improve.

I notice that in their two games, Russia have covered more distance, as a team, than any other team in any game at the World Cup. I think it's something like 112 kilometers and 115 kilometers.........I wonder how the Russian drug testing is working this time?

It's called "Everyone else drug testing".

Quality result for Croatia, but Argentina were woeful. And I'm not overly surprised. Argentina were my fancy to fail to qualify out of all the group favourites. Croatia have some very good players and Iceland are resilient. Also, Argentina are overrated and only just qualified in the first place. Their team looks lopsided to me, yes their strike force is very good but rest of the team is average with a poor keeper. Also, nothing special as a unit.

Croatia have always been a useful side, but rated lower than Wales in the mysterious FIFA rankings.
Shocking performance from Argentina.

Not qualified for the last 2 world cups and never get far when they have qualified for Euros etc. Belgium are probably ranked too high too for what they have achieved. And Switzerland.

Last night showed by Ronaldo is the better player compared to Messi. Messi looked and played as though he didn't give a sh1t.

Think he's fed up of carrying that team - they certainly gave the impression there was disharmony in the camp as many seem to give up other than show the nastiness of their nature

I don't think it's because Messi doesn't give a sh** but he just doesn't seem to handle the pressure so well as Ronaldo. Ronaldo seems to relish in the pressure and expectation put on his shoulders and there seems no limit to what targets and achievements are set for him.

I think the groups games have thrown up some good surprises. Yes there are always some freak results every time in the early group rounds but some smaller teams could still sneak into the knock out stages which would be great for the competition. Iceland beating Nigeria today for example. Could Sweden beat Germany and open up that group. I'm enjoying this World Cup for a change - hopefully still so after Sunday !! G

G I'm confident Iceland will qualify now. That goal difference could come back to haunt Argentina but I think Iceland might win today and draw with Croatia anyway and end up on 5 points. Sweden beating Germany would more likely kill Germany's chances than open up the group!

Have thoroughly enjoyed this world cup, credit to Russia, and all the teams involved who have all been up for it from the start, including England! none of the so called minnows have just rolled over and they have contributed to some very entertaining games, without getting in some cases there just rewards, have found myself enjoying games which on paper did not look very appetizing.Glad to see the so called favorites and big guns are not getting it all there own way, but then again there favorite tag ,given them by the media is based more on historical deeds rather than recent form and performances, Argentina last night being a prime example of what i mean.As for individuals many have caught the eye, though the media is obsessed with two or three,Ronaldo has obviously caught the headlines but in my opinion he is not easy to like or even admire, its all about him on and off the field, he stills rolls around like those blokes chasing a cheese down that hill in Gloucestershire every time he goes down, its a wonder they dont bring a full length mirror on every time he scores so he can admire himself!if its not him being the star he isn't interested, eg never acknowledged Bales brilliance in cham league final or gave him any credit, that said i respect his ability to influence games on his own and 4 goals giving 6 points says it all about a very average Portuguese side, this although for most of the two games he was a peripheral figure, but then again so was Harry Kane! As for England , i reckon we got something going here, thanks in no small part to Southgates management, which i must admit did not inspire me when he was appointed. there are no egos in the squad, an d the main thing ,no inter club jealousy, which the likes of Lampard , and Gerrard have admitted existed when MAN utd were winning everything, that jealousy would not have come from any of Fergies players, and it explains why the performances of the likes of Gerrard , Lampard and co never got any where near there club form, all has become clear and it does them no credit, so well done to Gareth and staff for creating the best team spirit i have known from an England team for many a year , and i am beginning to believe that spirit coupled with no small amount of ability will produce England s best tournament result for many a long year, Bit like Darrell's Rovers really, wonder if they been talking!come on England, and Rovers !

Good words.......but let's not forget that Southgate still has a long way to go to match the exploits of Mike Bassett, who let's not forget, took an unfancied England team to the World Cup semi-final ! What a documentary that was !

IMO no team looks particularly good; not saying England are all that, but certainly have a punchers chance, unless they get hit on their glass chin.
