But even they are finding it hard to shift Maddison and Marriott for the prices they want so will have to come donwn if they want to sell and get rid. Maddison has a £2.5m release clause, so Peterborough are in a strong position with him. Marriott will join Derby within the next week or so for around £6mil, so good business from them. So there really is something we could learn from posh then

Again CGH I don’t disagree. I don’t know enough about the ins and outs of how Posh do it but I think they sign more players on 3 year contracts than we do and then at the end of two years if they won’t sign an extension, if the club want them to, they are transfer listed and they get whatever they can for them. But even they are finding it hard to shift Maddison and Marriott for the prices they want so will have to come donwn if they want to sell and get rid. The players don’t seem to be able to run down their contracts as you say. It is different but tbf to Rovers we were either non league or fresh out of it for MT and BB contracts and few teams in non league have players on 3 year contracts. With hindsight it could have been better for Rovers but my original point was with both players I don’t see that Rovers could have done anything different. You seem to be saying that we could have done better by offering longer contracts but that was never going to happen when MT signed his contract in 2014 and BB in Dec 2015 (?) and we probably know why. Now it might be different and perhaps with all this “undisclosed” stuff we are doing things a bit differently but even then the agents will know and share it with everyone anyway. UTG! Well it's up to our owners to improve how we do business but I think we can establish that there are things they could learn from Peterborough. We can't change the past but we should improve the future and a way to help doing that is to understand how other competitors operate and then take the good and avoid the bad. It's not essentially disagreeing whether you or me understand how they operate or whether a different approach in the past would've yielded better returns, but disagreeing with your original assertion that our owners couldn't learn from DM and posh

I’m pretty sure that Wael and MacAnthony are completely different in their approach and in their ways of doing things. Your idea about Rovers learning from Posh is a fair one but the contexts of when contracts are offered is important and I’m still not sure that we could have done much about the contract situation with MT or BB. DM may have got more than we did for the pair of them because he would probably have had them on 3 year contracts which he could have done being a league 1 club. My point about them was that when we signed them it was in non league times with MT and in league 2 with the old regime for BB, a completely different context. I’m sure Rovers do things a bit differently now although not necessarily having a policy quite like Posh do to speculate on transfers. UTG,
