Last season we had, Telford, Harrison, gaffney and Nichols as striking options. This year Nichols and Reilly. We need there to be 2 at the very least Mensah can play up top, usually sits behind the striker but was capable at Aldershot on the wing and has been used as a full striker. People keep forgetting we have him but from what i’ve seen he seems to be playing well in pre season. Based on what I saw of Mensah on Saturday at FGR I wouldn't be confident in him filling in for Ellis up front at all. He looked lathargic and lacking in fitness imo and didn't pressurise their defence or keeper once. He didn't really impress me at the end of last season either. I reckon he'll have to buck his ideas up and start putting a proper shift in or DC might send him out on loan to Hartlepool!

Hamer is a sham. Have you seen him being interviewed?! Six figure salary for years. Crusty middle-upper class buffoon. Should be in today’s politic arena. Utterly shameful. This what happens when confidence breeding surpasses any real intelligence or natural talent. We then go and employ a CEO doppelgänger. These guys don’t need to know about football, they’re here to run a business. Why couldn’t Wael get a young gun divisional MD from a Dyson or Imperial with modern ideas?!

I'm sure SH is a competent chairperson, but some of his wording really drains confidence in him. How about instead of thinks he said: "We are working hard on a couple of potential replacements for Ellis and hope to have one over the line by the time we play Peterborough" And then people would complain about the word “hope”. Reckon that some folk wouldn’t be happy with whatever he says or said. I’m more heartened by the fact he’s come out and said everyone is working hard to get a replacement in. Btw, not saying you’re wrong tommym9, just that’s he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. I’m just glad that he’s realised fans’ concerns and tried to reassure them. Obviously not worked with all fans though. I just wonder who they are, any ideas pirate? 😀 UTG!

Must be the close season when people start moaning about the odd word in a statement. I have had communication by email and mobile on one occasion and found SH answered my questions courteously and in my opinion as openly as he could. Give the bloke a break, the landing lights statement was made when he personally had every confidence the UWE would go ahead, just as the previous incumbent did as he told us about the watertight case we had in the high court! Roll on Saturday week! UTG!

I even cringed when he said it, albeit you take it as face value which made it all the more disappointing. On this subject I agree some are being harsh but he made a rod for his own back.

Perhaps he should not have believed one word that wing commander Higgs passed on about negotiations with UWE, just as we all should have done when the previous board offered us the dream.

He should have just been a little bit more reserved with his words. One of my morals is not to promise things I can't keep to. Now, I know he didn't promise as such but it was as good as.

Nothing to do with Higgs, part of the deal of the sale of the club was the guarantee to sign off on the new stadium. Hani assured the old board that the finance was in place as was the desire to get it built. They had the full SP on the stadium plans from the outset obstacles included. Every one of the old board members I have spoken to regarding the stadium told exactly the same story. The Higgs model could well have worked but the ALQs wanted significant changes to the design, what was going to be built (they wanted a hotel) and then the contractual financials. Even plans were redrawn on the UWE site. What Hamer should have said is we have seen the existing model, it is close to finalisation subject to any changes the new ownership may or may not want to make. So blame Hani for backing us out of the UWE as he’s the one that seems to be pulling the plug on the finances. Exactly what he has done with the training facility. Wanted a £10-12m academy for £2.5m.

One thing is for sure it is no better under the Waq & Hani show than Higsie; I went over to the MEM yesterday to renew our 5 Supporters Club and my grandsons Young Pirates memberships for next season, to be told, BRFC is no longer processing Supporters Club memberships, this will be done separately out of a cabin on match days, they did not have a clue what was happening about the Young Pirates memberships, the club is going down the ******, they do not give a **** about the supporters, its just a corporate entity with no soul or care for the fan base. We might have been rag bag rovers, but we were a family club, that has completely gone, and as for "landing lights Hamer" a CEO who is insulted every time he is asked to comment, ffs imo it is job to communicate.

The landing lights comment really doesn't bother me at all, I totally get that he may have believed that to be the case at the time. The one that really irks is the crazy gang comment. He was under no pressure to say that and god only knows what he was thinking when he came up with that out of the blue in that interview. Has to be one of the most random and yet humiliating statements a board member has made about our club in my living history. The bloke's meant to be championing our club, not demeaning it.
I can only think that he has a tendency to do a Donald Trump and occasionally just panic and go off-script without warning no matter how well he has been briefed. Although that begs the question as to why he is being put in front of the camera in the first place if he's not up to the job. For balance, Wael appears significantly more measured and sensible in front of the camera - rightly or wrongly I take his word at face value when I hear it.
