I agree mate, in a nutshell I'm still on the fence, it's all well and good all of the talk of modernising the operations and being professionally run but until we actually build something then I can't get myself too excited about anything.... Apart from Darrell and the lads of course.... How long before DC had enough when there’s possibly good opportunities out there waiting for him and if DC was too take one of those opportunities you watch the fans turn on the board. DC will be gone one day whatever. DC as a manager has had more backing on the pitch and off the pitch than any manager in the history of BRFC

There are plenty of reasons DC stays and the lack of opportunity elsewhere is not one of them. There are plenty of jobs he could have applied for with 2 promotions under his belt. He stays because he wants to stay and build for the future, if he wasn't happy he would have gone a long time ago. You could be happy one day but not the next.

The grand old dukes of Horfield. They marched us up to the top of the hill, then they marched us down again. Apparently the Duke of York was gay, he had 10000 men 😗
He had 'em up & down...

It's hard to imagine he would get a better job and would be more supported than he is at this point in time. Still has a lot of work to do here before Championship clubs start circling.

Absolutely spot on. This is the main reason that I took a self imposed 10 week break from here - so I could detox. I'm back on line now and nothing has f**king changed. No f**ker really knows anything, and if they know even a little bit they should probably keep quiet or someone may lose their job. It's draining reading through threads like it. I know I don't have to read them but I was doing so in the hope that I might find something meaningful, only to end up with nothing but a period of time wasted that I will never get back. The detox has helped and I won't be falling for it again. Nice to see you back my old scrotum licking friend ! But I've never licked your old scrotum

Leeds United did they offer DC a job? Was that really a "better job" though? Although you do have to wonder if that was all some kind of strange publicity stunt for Leeds.

Better stadium yes bigger crowds yes bigger pay packet yes better players and coaching staff yes better training facilities yes BUT better owners I would say no,massive pressure on DC yes A better job ? What could be better than managing the mighty GAS. So no not a better job you’re right Topper UTG

There was a really decent article a while back (I forget where it came from, apologies) where the author, who had covered Rovers for a long time, hypothesized that DC having a ubiquitous, almost Wenger-like presence at the club after the incredibly successful 14/15, 15/16 (and I'd argue 16/17) seasons was the main reason for him staying. It would take a lot for him to face the sack and as a young manager in his first professional gig, that represents the best chance for him to experiment and hone his craft at present.
The article claimed he had total respect and confidence from everyone at the club and is on friendly terms with everyone from the BoD to the girls in Pirate Leisure. He won't get that anywhere else without repeating the same miracle he performed here. I agree that 2/3 more seasons of stagnation will probably push him though. It's down to the board to get that training ground done and back him in the transfer window.

Look at Paul Hurst, took a few years to get Grimsby out of the Conference, was always falling out with lots of their fans who were never convinced about him. They start off, like us in League 2, jogging along in mid table before going to Shrewsbury. Saved them from relegation and then had a very good season last year utilising the loan market very well and has gone to Ipswich. Imo, Hurst is not as good a manager as DC and his record is not as good yet he is in the Championship without ever gaining a promotion in league football. I find that very surprising but am very glad that DC is still with us. So yes, he does have more to do, but not too much. And you are correct about him not getting a better job because I think he enjoys being allowed to do it his way, he is well supported by the board and he knows he’s the King, the No. 1 and has a reputation amongst fans of being loved. I’m sure he’s on a very good wage and he knows if he were to get us to the Championship then his reputation would be huge, he would be able to go anywhere and he would be up there with Eddie Howe as the brightest English managers. Being still in his 30s time is on his side and I think he knows that with another promotion he would be up there with the best of English mangers. UTG!
