I hate to be negative but I just feel it’s typical rovers and we won’t bring a striker in before the deadline. If we do it will be a loan that won’t play more than ten games this season. It may be just me, but we really need to take this seriously and act accordingly if we are serious about pushing on this season. You are possibly correct, DC said as much last night, will be looking into the loan market, he also said the club will be bringing in two centre forwards, lets hope they arrive sooner rather than later.

Tom eaves will be first through the door Never rated Eaves.
His goal return during his short term loan with us was decent and he had a fairly good season with Gillingham but it was only 12 months ago he was being released by Yeovil.
Other than last season his goal record is very poor.
If Norwood and Eaves are the best we can do we might as well start planning our trips to Morecambe and Macclesfield now.

Eaves looked a donkey at our place last season. I said it before, but his control was so bad it went further than I can kick it!

"It shuts on August 9 so we will see, and then the loan window, which I am trying to come away from loans, but there might be one or two that we have to add in before the end of August.”

I liked Eaves during our loan spell but agree with Pirate that he looked poor last season at our place. I would also worry what style of play we would adopt with him. If he was a back up to another number 9 I would maybe consider it but doubt he would move to another league one club for that.

While I understand the concern, and I agree that we need at least one striker (target man), probably 2. People saying that we need 2 strikers as starters is ridiculous when we really have no idea how good Gavin Reilly is. And of course he is a gamble as he hasn’t played in this country, but DC has seen a lot more of him than we have so maybe if DC has faith in him then we should too. Just remember, MT was also an unknown and a gamble when he first came to us, and I know he is now strongly disliked but he turned out to be one hell of a player for us for the 2 and a half years he was here. Why is people saying we need 2 strikers as sharers, ridicilous. We have 2 strikers less than last season. 4 strikers is about right IMO, and if you discount the striker that doesn't score (Nichols) then we we may need 3!

Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers are currently battling it out for Wigan Athletic striker Devante Cole, the ex Man City man was wanted by AFC Wimbledon on loan however Wigan want to sell. Being told bids have started around 650k... I would be a very happy man with Harrison for Cole and money In the bank...

I doubt his value has gone up 250k in that time.

Fleetwood did well to get £400k for him tbh.

I disagree on eaves thought he looked better than most strikers I’d seen at the Mem. However, I’d be put off by the injury record. He’s currently out of preseason matches. Toney on a perm would be my choice.

Eaves has a poor touch and very little ability. Really useful only for his height.
Not a bad season just finished with Gillingham but 4 goals in 40 league appearances for Yeovil (30 starts) is no better than Nichols when you consider that was in L2.
After his time with us in 2012 he made 60 appearances during loans at Shrewsbury, Rotherham, Yeovil and Bury. In those 60 appearances he managed 9 goals.
Not good enough. We will struggle if we sign Eaves.

I reckon we're further down the line of getting the two number nines in the building than everyone is letting on. Gaffney went weeks ago and we will have had a list to work through to replace him, top of the list may have been a couple of names that were speculative. We make enquiries in the proper manner and get quoted a figure at which we can start properly talking...thanks very much, we'll get back to you. Too expensive then, to replace Gaffers, so we start working down the list. We're continuing working on the Gaffers replacement and suddenly we've got to replace Ellis too...but now those figures we were originally quoted for our top targets are more sensible when both the size of the war kitty and the size of the hole in our striking capabilities have grown dramatically. So we go back to those clubs where we originally made enquiries and firm up our interest at or around their negotiating figure. Could very well be we were down to choices 6 or 7 on the Gaffney replacement list but can now get our second and fifth choices from that list now that we know it's two places we're filling.

Why would tom eaves move sideways to a similar club? wouldnt make sense. Why the love in with devante cole whose record is pretty ordinary in terms of goals? I dont think we will sign eaves, cole, toney or doidge.

I dont think we will sign eaves, cole, toney or doidge. Cole has good technique, pace, power, can score with his head and feet and is young enough to improve further. If you don't think we will sign any of those, is there anyone you think we might sign?

No idea who we will sign as i dont follow other teams much but i think it will be a player nobody has mentioned. If we sign 2 strikers one of them will be a young loan signing.
