I hate to be negative but I just feel it’s typical rovers and we won’t bring a striker in before the deadline. If we do it will be a loan that won’t play more than ten games this season. It may be just me, but we really need to take this seriously and act accordingly if we are serious about pushing on this season.

I don't think you hate being negative that much....

It’s a negative post but also a very real one and probably based on our f**k ups in the past. I’m a very optimistic person in general and that rolls in to my support of Rovers but I’m really worried about our attacking options. Ellis and Rory were our best two strikers , ok one was an average league 1 striker with potential and the other probably league 2 standard and had peaked but that was the best we had. Now we’ve got Tom Nichols .

Did we not bring in Nichols last season?? I know he is not what we wanted, but point is, we went and got him and paid a fee for him. So I think we will bring in a striker, especially now that we have extra help with recruitment.

Currently we have 2 strikers. 3 if you include Mensah but I see him more of a winger. But really we have 2. That's Nichols who only scored 1 league goal last season and Reilly who hasn't played in England before. Now this may be harsh but its just my opinion that neither of these 2 strikers should be our regular starter strikers. Nichols aint good enough and after last season he don't deserve to be a regular starter. And I don't know a thing about Reilly apart from he scored a few goals in Scotland at a level where I am unsure if its as good of a level as League 1 so could be a big gamble to be a regular starter. So to me we need 2 strikers who are good enough to be regular starters. Failure to bring in any more strikers will see us in trouble I think.
I have blind faith but faith it is, that the club will get the 2 strikers we need. Time to show their ambition on the pitch following all the changes off of it. DC has today stated he has targets so lets see what the club can do.

I’m not expecting us to go out and spend big money on anyone but given our manager and the kind of manager he is I’d probably be more comfortable with an up and coming striker from League 2 / conference with perhaps an experienced striker on loan. That’s what I’m expecting.

There's over 2 weeks left of the transfer window, our Chairman has already stated that we are looking to bring in a striker or two, we have a head of recruitment who has done ok so far and our manager and the rest of the coaching team are currently abroad. Honestly I do think we will have a couple of strikers in by the end of the window.

I think we will bring in two strikers, whether they will be of the required quality or not, remains to be seen. Fingers crossed they are!

While I understand the concern, and I agree that we need at least one striker (target man), probably 2. People saying that we need 2 strikers as starters is ridiculous when we really have no idea how good Gavin Reilly is. And of course he is a gamble as he hasn’t played in this country, but DC has seen a lot more of him than we have so maybe if DC has faith in him then we should too.
Just remember, MT was also an unknown and a gamble when he first came to us, and I know he is now strongly disliked but he turned out to be one hell of a player for us for the 2 and a half years he was here.

It's hard to buy something if you don't know how much you have to spend. DC said in the Holland interview that he does not know what funds available to spend despite discussions earlier this week.

If I were a decent striker, and BRFC tried to sign me, I'd jump at the chance. We have made some really exciting signings so far in this transfer window, and are going to create loads of chances for our forwards.

Exactly. That’s what I mean. I back the board because without them we would be in the sh*t and they have done an awful lot for the club. However I feel it’s these things about the budget and how much dc can spend that slows it all down and makes me think we are leaving it to the last minute again. Realistically we need one before the Peterborough game. Gavin Reilly may not even be fit for the first game! Which would leave us with one natural striker.... Nichols

For me it's not a striker of the Nicholas , Telford type we want, but a powerful one who can make the space for the less powerful.

I think we have a few players who can play as striker even if they’re more winger types (Bennett/Mensah). In preseason we’ve looked to have a 1 striker formation so perhaps we’re less reliant now on this position.
