Having read the forums for years im not surprised by all the negativity I'm reading on here and Facebook since yesterdays game. But I don't feel that way, and I definitely feel in the minority.
I like the direction of travel our club is taking, and accept there will be bumps along the way. Such as sausage roll prices, 4-0 pre season defeats but the tendency to judge everything blow by blow has never been my style. Im happy with signings so far. And until August 9th is over I don't see the point in judging this windows activity.
We sold Ellis cause a bigger club came along.....happens to every club apart from Real Madrid. The price seems reasonable based on his contract length. Can't help smile at the posts from 12 to 24 months ago about Ellis.....glad those posters aren't in charge.
I wait with keen anticipation to see who we manage to sign in the next 11 days, and I expect an ok season. In the last window there was much gnashing of teeth and then we signed 2 good ones the morning after the window closed. I believe DC and Wael will do what they can but we will never know the wage demands and ins and outs of transfer negotiations.
I'm hopeful of a good season.Top half, with play offs in touching distance will do me. In my 35+ years we have had many years of sh**, but the last 4 have not been. And I don't think the next one will be that bad either. However I will judge this in about 9 months time, not moment by moment for the next nine months 😀
No offence meant to anyone. As I appreciate we all see the world differently.

I look at the behind the scenes changes from the Development squad, Coach’s and Medical staff as necessary foundations for the evolution, small improvements to the ground are also welcome, we are being dragged, slowly I grant you, into the 21st century after years of stagnation. Perhaps this is all too slowly for some and I appreciate this is a forum for airing views but I’m positive for our future as a club, but I guess I may be too easily pleased.

I. like you think we will be in a good place at the end of this season, in fact,I think those who run the Club down will have changed their tune. I am sure we are in good hands

I’m happy with where we are. With a couple of signings, in key areas, we will be fine. Without a couple of signings in key areas, I think we will struggle this season. I don’t think our squad currently possesses the firepower needed. The interview from DC has thrown cold water over the fire a little. I posted a couple of days ago about us potentially smashing our record fee paid for a player, set some 25 years ago as I feel now is the to do so. DC has pretty much confirmed that despite selling our best players in recent months, we aren’t going to be spending money on replacements. I just feel a little disheartened by this. A win on Saturday coupled with a good signing will raise my spirits once again. UTG

The art of being a successful football club is to score goals, and to prevent the opposition from scoring. At the moment we have 2 first team strikers, one who might score, the other can't score. Meanwhile at the back we have a defence that has leaked goals for the last 10 years, and I see no way to improve that unless we change manager and at least 6 defenders

It really is that simple... Finding such a player is not so easy...

As I appreciate we all see the world differently. UTG Excellent post. It's encouraging to see more and more rational posts and I agree, you are most definitely in the majority. Personally I'd be happy with another mid table finish. Unfortunately, the moaners will always make the most noise with their calls for the defence to be changed (I mean, really?), the manager to be sacked (yeah, cos we're going to get an upgrade on the best manager in recent history aren't we?), the board to sell up etc (despite doing more in 2-3 years than the last 22 years combined). These people are living in cloud cuckoo land if they think we should spend every penny received on sales on new players and just ignore the long term future of the club. I don't believe for a minute that it will happen, but even if we were relegated, Darrell Clarke would continue to be the right man for the job and the current board would continue to be moving the club in the direction it has to take. Sorry for the rant. I hope my posts are in general measured and respectful of other views on this forum, but some of the comments on here since a pre-season friendly defeat really have bordered on the hysterical and quite frankly pathetic.

Good thread. Personally as the squad currently stands, I feel we are in for a long tough season of struggle. Yesterday was just a friendly thank goodness. But its a sign to us all that it will continue to happen a lot this coming season. This is just common sense as we lack the firepower up front which we all know is the case. So don't confuse this realism as negativity like some have already made in other threads. It is just a fact that teams will struggle if they struggle to score.
BUT, the above statement is based on the current squad. Hopefully there will be a few more additions to the current squad, which is actually a pretty good squad. We just need to get 2/3 strikers in and then I feel we are capable of being in the top 10 come the end of the season. Being good in the final 3rd creates less pressure in our defensive 3rd. Again just common sense stuff. You don't need to be a special coach to understand this. We have plenty of time to go and get a few strikers in, although I can understand why some are feeling pretty worried because of the 'what if's'. What if DC don't manage to get in strikers? So I understand why there are people are worried as I know what will happen. But we still have time so lets wait to see what happens first before complete meltdown happens.
Again good thread.

It really is that simple... Finding such a player is not so easy... DC's found three, Taylor, Bodin, probably Harrison this season, but lost them all! This next week or two is a big test for the owners as they have to back DC so he can at least bring in a 15 goals a season striker or we could be in real trouble. Broadbent also looks miles off the pace so DC may also need to bring in back up for Craig. Plus who plays left back next week doesn't seem to be clear.

Lets look at the past week..
Ellis goes but such is life. Hope to find a suitable replacement before the end of the window.
Keith Brookman, appears to be pushed out of the door.
Walk into stadium. Past a long queue at the food kiosk, take my place in the stand. Go to get a cup of coffee, stand in queue. Notice drink prices have considerably gone up. Get to front of queue after 15 mins and they only have cheese and onion pasties available.
Watch match, started off very well but continued to pass the ball well without any end product. Obviously missing a presence in the box. Defending was a farce. Walk away disappointed but knowing the scoreline didn't reflect the game. We were just shocking where it matters (in both boxes).
Get home to watch DC interview (accept this COULD be mind games) where it sounds like once again we are shopping in Poundland despite selling our best player in 3 of the last 4 windows. Me paying more for my season ticket and cup of coffee and service still being sh** I.e season tickets not yet arriving. Shirts being unavailable etc.
Hope this makes my frustrations clearer.
