Agreed. Perhaps we should have designed a much more modest UWE with one or two main stands and the others smaller temporary ones to bring the budget within say £15m which we could have got for the Mem for housing. The temporary ones becoming new builds when budgets allowed. At least we would have something tangible. I guess it depends on whether we are a small large-team needing 20,000+ or a large small-team settling for c.12,000 which teams like Shrewsbury have. That may be part of the problem. We are neither. We won't fill 20,000 but 12,000 probably wouldn't be enough given we regularly get 9,000 in the Mem. According to Wiki the 15,000 Keepmoat Stadium cost around £20m in 2006, albeit part of a larger development. Not sure if that was just build costs or included land, but gives an idea of what sort of finances are needed.

Yeah. Of all the whining about Bristol City Council, various NIMBYs, planning permission, various partners (Sainsburys, ICI, that student accomodation lot, Oxford Stadiums) the fact is, we've always tried to do this on the cheap, or with a sharp deal, enabling developments, etc, putting ourselves at the mercy of others' plans and ambitions. Had we ever been prepared to simply put up the cash for a new stadium we could have had whatever we'd have been prepared to pay for, relatively easily, in a few years. The fact is, we have never actually been prepared to simply pay for what we wanted. Take it for what it's worth, but I was told that in the later stages of the UWE project under NH, the costs were trying to be slashed to get it built in some form
whether it was leaving the corners with out seats (which could be added later), replacing the floodlights with lower output (which would have saved money as better was needed for Championship or beyond I believe), but could be upgraded. Leaving certain parts underneath the stands as shell (that could be done later). reducing that large bar that was in the plans etc

ALQs, should bury their heads in the sand because we aint getting any money or support from them. Are they friends of PANTSDOWN ? So who paid for the following then...? Relaid pitch x 2 Improved matchday facilities Improved club shop Macron Paid for the shop Darrell's contract Incoming players Improved coaching staff More professional structure Etc

I can see Macron paying of the fitting out of the shop but would they really pay for all the building work as I can't imagine our account is that profitable for them? Although if they have paid for it in full I guess that means more money for DC's paying budget.

I hate being negative but if nothing happens on the transfer front between now and Saturday, I can’t see us getting 1 point let alone 3. It seems to have gone a little quiet. Hopefully there is something going on behind the scenes.

I’m afraid I don’t believe we’ll see even 1 new striker before the Peterborough game rather 2 loans in desperation in late August the way things are

Honest question , no malice intended , so please don’t take it the wrong way and apologies if you aren’t..... Are you a city supporter ? Only asking as I’ve had a look at some of your past posts and there does seem to be quite a bit of reference to them. Again not trying to cause an argument as I couldn’t care if you are or not. I am indeed. Not here for a wind up just to join in the odd discussion now and again Welcome - you will not get any grief from me, unlike my reception on your site

I can’t see us getting a permanent striker in now. We are clearly desperate for a striker and other clubs will play on this by bumping up their valuations of their players.

Tareiq Holmes Dennis said that his deal had been on the cards for some weeks, like I’ve heard others say recently,I think that DC keeps his powder dry until the deal is done, we’ll get at least one striker in the door before Peterborough, never fear..😁

Yet when WAQ first arrived on the seen, social media was awash with many (not all) Rovers fans rubbing their hands at the arrival of their own sugar daddy Remember the video “unlucky the sh1t, premier league in 5 years”. “6th richest club in England” I understood the excitement but don’t slate SL when he’s exactly the kind of owner you’d love to have I think it’s a little early in the ALQs reign to say we would rather have Lansdown than them. After all, how long has the tax dodger been in control? 10 years +? His reign hasn’t been all roses either, there has been plenty of vitriolic tirades following relegations to L1 and then fighting at the wrong end of the Championship, hiring duff manager after duff manager, poor recruitment, non communicating CEOs the list goes on. It’s only been peaceful in the last 12 months since a decent cup run and the new stadium opening. So until the ALQs have been here 10 years you can’t draw any comparisons. Looking at what clubs like Bournemouth and Blackpool can achieve it could be possible in 10 years we could be in the prem with a new stadium hailing the best owners in the world. We could also be bankrupt in the conference again mind you! Excellent post - pity about the last sentence

Even if we do get someone in it's hardly ideal preparation a few days before the first game. Ellis has already played a couple of friendlies for Ipswich whilst we twiddle our thumbs seeking a replacement. The thing is, this is all so predictable.

It does seem the Ellis deal did happen quite quickly but that doesn't excuse us losing two from last seasons squad (Telford and Rory) and only getting one in so far (O'Reilly). If we'd already got one cheapo or a loanee weeks ago then there wouldn't have been quite the mad, last minute panic/urgency following Ellis' departure.

I agree we needed another one in before Ellis left (even considering Reilly) but there was talk of interest in Ellis as far back as last season so we should really have been more prepared.
I think this is the first season I haven't looked forward to since the conference, although that didn't end too badly so there is hope.

When will rovers ever be exciting and show some real intention. We always fanny about.

I am indeed. Not here for a wind up just to join in the odd discussion now and again Welcome - you will not get any grief from me, unlike my reception on your site No idea why you'd welcome him/her Henbury but it's each to their own I guess. What possible purpose could a ted be here for other than a wind up? If he/she had stated their allegiance up front then they'd maybe have garnered a tiny modicum of trust. But when they start out by trying to conceal the fact that they are a ted and then get called out on it then I fail to see how it can possibly end well.

In fairness to neighbor he comes across as a genuine poster who has added to debates, not seen anything to suggest he’s here on the wind up. Certainly worse posters on here than neighbor ( yes , I included myself in that ! )
