I think sometimes, especially when you're not the quickest, you can come on in the middle of a high tempo game and just not be able to get into it. I wouldn't want to blame it on a lack of effort so readily. Did you watch the game? I can’t remember ever slagging off a player on this or any forum or [out loud] at a game- and that is a challenge to all the forumers who like to dig up old posts, in fact I am a proper rose tinter, but his performance this afternoon was nothing short of an embarrassment. We would have done better had a player been sent off then at least we would actually have taken the initiative to reorganise ourselves for playing as a ten. Yeah, I watched the game. All I'm saying is just coz you look sh** it doesn't mean you're not trying. Anyone can be sh**. Not trying is unforgivable.

The thing that frustrates me the most is he often doesn't leave the ground and challenge for headers. Even if you know you aren't going to win the ball at least challenge and make it difficult for the defender. Needs to lose a few pounds and do a lot better all round. I can't understand that either, is it lack of fitness or effort or is he just incapable of challenging for headers? Nichols was struggling to keep possession of the ball before he was subbed but Payne hardly even got the ball. I think it was Graham Coughlan rather than DC who was giving him a rollicking just after he came on, so the coaching staff can clearly see there's an issue, it's a bit odd as Shrewsbury run last season seemed to be based on effort rather than ability so you'd have thought Payne & Rodman would have fitted in well at Rovers.

I think you will find Rodman has had personal family problems that have affected his form!

A totally disinterested performance. Came on with half hour to go and did not put any effort in whatsoever. Expected every ball to come within six inches of him before he attempted to get it and even then mostly failed to beat his marker. Could see DC screaming at him after he made no effort to go for a ball which I could have reached even at my age. As others have said it was an embarrassing performance. Can't see him being here long with further performances like that.

I can't understand that either, is it lack of fitness or effort or is he just incapable of challenging for headers? Maybe a combination of all three. He showed he has all three on his debut, he’s been poor since then and it’s a lack of effort more than anything that stands out for me. My starting striker partnership would be Reilly and Jakubiak going forwards with Payne having to show effort and Nichols having to show goal scoring ability to get a look in.

I think you will find Rodman has had personal family problems that have affected his form! Where have you heard that? A poster put in last weeks matchday thread that several close relatives in his family have recently passed away. I don’t know if it’s true or not but if it is he deserves our full support and patience.

Disgraceful performance today, literally CBA to even jump after he spends so long calling for the ball. If you come off the bench you need to be showing the boss why he should be starting you... all he showed DC was why Deon Moore deserves the bench spot instead.

Is everyone who is slating Payne for not jumping and not giving effort 100% sure he’s not carrying an injury? Seems odd given that he jumped and gave plenty of effort in his first couple of games?
Ollie Clarke was slated a lot last year when he was in fact playing through injury for months. Now he’s back to full fitness and showing fine form.
I’d be inclined to reserve judgment on Payne. No one else can play his role so if he is carrying a knock he’s bound to want to, or be asked to, play through injury.

I think he deserves our support, or is he going to be the next player everyone slags off? He was poor when he came on but how can Slagging him off help his confidence. A bollocking is what he deserves after his lack of effort today. The first 8 balls to him were won by defenders without him making any effort to win those challenges . I know because after the third I started counting. He won his 9th header , it was a free header and he headed it straight to a Coventry player. Looks a stone heavier than he did 6 weeks ago in his first game and showed about as much effort as Nichols did last season. DC got it pretty much spot on today but bringing Payne on turned out wrong but I don’t blame DC for that I blame the player his lack of effort was shocking. Reilly and Nichols to start again next game AJ to replace one of them as or when needed. Payne to play -23 and think about what he needs to put in if he wants to make it here. Good performance by most today though and feels so great to get the three points. Any coincidence that we’ve won our last two and Sinclairs back ? That attitude has to rub off and I’d imagine his team mates look at him and think I’ve got to make more effort here because he’s making me look sh**.

I'm not a Nichols hater btw, just feel he's had an awful lot of chances and it's time to start each game with the best players on the pitch.

I said before today’s game I’d start Reilly and Jakubiak but as we scored 3 from open play I think I’d stick with today’s two. Reilly has a poacher instinct and Nichols can pass the ball so could be a good partnership. Most goals we’ve scored this season so keep the attack let them gel.

His record speaks for itself and I trust him to give us another decent season comparative to our budget and facilities. The reason for that ? He always has. UTG

UTG Yeah, like most fans when I saw the team sheet before today's game my heart sank a bit and I thought we were in for another really difficult game and a very close result but DC's selection did perform very well. The positive thing for me is that we have got a decent squad when everyone's fit so we should be fine. We have still to see Sercombe return, Parts is on his way back and Marcus said in the post match interview that Holmes Dennis is not far away now. UTG!
