Funny thing is we had 13 players who did very well or quite well but we have a thread on the one player who was poor. Not worth a thread imo.

I think you will find Rodman has had personal family problems that have affected his form! He needs our support, not slating, when he does make a return. Very disappointed in Payne when compared to the first time I saw him play. Maybe he's put on a bit of weight due to living in an hotel at the moment?

Players who played well have been praised on the match thread, but I want to improve and picking out weak areas will do that. If Smith had been in goal today the results may have been very different

I think even Smith was a bit of a scapegoat. We could have been 2-0. Down today after 5 mins and that will now be overlooked as our keeper made 2 excellent saves. But for me the problem is still there, we are very weak defensively

His strange performance was simply a part of the game. On tuesday nite he worked very hard though he wasnt sharp near goal, today he was sluggish and poor.

I dont see anything wrong with this having its own thread. Yes he was poor when he came on and showed little effort which is totally against the minimum requirement when trying to show you should be in the 1st 11

Unfortunately for Payne we all can't be wrong if we say the same thing, there was Chris Hargreaves on the edge of the technical area trying to fire him up after a couple minutes on the pitch.
Needs to be giving 100 % like he did in the first game, giving DC problems so he got to pick him. Didn't help his cause with that Anayensah style performance. Could have excused DC for subbing him.

His lack of effort is what annoyed me. He didn`t even try to compete; don`t think he jumped once to try and win a header. Unacceptable performance.

Is everyone who is slating Payne for not jumping and not giving effort 100% sure he’s not carrying an injury? Seems odd given that he jumped and gave plenty of effort in his first couple of games? Ollie Clarke was slated a lot last year when he was in fact playing through injury for months. Now he’s back to full fitness and showing fine form. I’d be inclined to reserve judgment on Payne. No one else can play his role so if he is carrying a knock he’s bound to want to, or be asked to, play through injury. If he's carrying an injury then he should be asked to not get picked for the good of the team. You can't just guess if players are carrying an injury or not or you could end up making that excuse for most players that are playing badly. You have to judge what you see and what we have seen of Payne has not been good enough. He looks lazy and overweight.

Actually I thought Bennett was terrible too, so that’s two players 😉 How Bennett is starting over Matthews is beyond me! He’s starting to become a watered down version of Bodin, in as much as, when Rovers are doing well, Bennett (Bodin) played well, but when you need to dig deep and support, they may as well be at home! On the plus side though, I thought everyone else has a very solid game, Kelly again nailing down his LB position (which by the sounds of it will rapidly disappear once THD is finally fit) Locks actually played ok, and Stuey showed every player how much effort they need to give!

I hope we're not paying much for Martin as it seems a waste of a wage otherwise. Kelly is fine there and if not we have J Clarke can fit in there as cover. As for Bennett, he has been very disappointing so far this season. He has the ability in his locker but zero end product. I much prefer Matthews so far too.

I'm sure we all love Bennett with his twists and turns but he is a bit of a luxury player imo. With Nicholls and Reilly it was great to see them put pressure on Cov's defence with their speed which the big guys lack. I would have taken off Bennett when Payne came on I thought Tom was unlucky to be subbed yesterday especially given the performance his replacement gave. It seems pretty obvious to me Reilly is the only striker who is on his game and for me would be first choice in every game at the moment. Interestingly no settling in problems for him.

Thought he did ok, intercept the play and won the ball a few more times than some players. For a shorter guy who is supposed to be a winger, I think he trys to get involved rather than hides. If the other players don't get the ball out wide, what can he do.

I actually recommended Payne to Rovers after seeing him for Dover. He chased everything, had a great touch and knew where the net was. Not sure what has happened to him since his first game. Like Rodman he looks a shadow of the player ive seen before. Payne l guess was dropped yesterday after his awful performance and attitude after being substituted last week at Luton, on the pitch at Kenilworth Road he was hiding not picking up when we were defending, he was unable to jump and their centre half had him in his pocket. He does not look fit and throwing his rattle out of the pram, leaving the dug out after being substituted and sitting on his own. It’s no wonder to me D.C. dropped him yesterday, l must say l really like Reilly and would play him jakubiak.

I would start Reilly and Jakubiak.
Thought Reilly was superb yesterday, looks to be a very good signing. Not sure why he was taken off. Perhaps because we had the luxury of a 2 goal lead and DC didn't want to break up the defence and midfield.
Nicholls improved performance yesterday but just doesn't look like scoring a goal. Ever.
Payne can't go sulking, hasn't come here being a big name with a reputation, hardly prolific record. Need to show more, us Gas fans appreciate a player that gives 100% for the team. He could be a favourite, but more performances like yesterday's will just gives fans more firepower and make it easier to get on his case.

I know what you’re saying but it doesn’t sit well with me when people are so quick to judge players for lack of effort. Seems likely there is some underlying reason, given the type of player he is and how he put himself about in the first couple of games. That’s why I use the Ollie Clarke example of last year. He’s fit now and like a different player, the one we knew he could be from the previous season. Payne was either subbed off with an injury or was clearly struggling in the latter stages of a game earlier in the season and that’s why this doubt is in my mind about lack of effort.
