Attachment DeletedSept '55 v Forest at Eastville. Radford,Bamford,Allcock,Pitt,Hale Samson,Petferbridge,Biggs ,Bradford ,Meyer,Hooper. No subs or floodlights then and had to leave early to catch a bus to Totterdown for my paper round. Previous week,my Dad took me to City v Swansea ,Atyeo played but the sterile atmosphere compared to Eastville meant there was no contest in who to choose.

6th April 1968 v Tranmere. We won 3-1. So over 50 years ago.
My dad then took me to Ashton Gate a few weeks later. As a Preston fan he didn't support either club, but enjoyed his football and wanted me to sample both.
I didn't enjoy Trashton. The experience was just not the same as Eastville, and I never went back apart from when we played them.

Rovers v Sunderland 1961. Lost 3-2. Geoff Bradford scored both goals for us and if memory serves me right a Brian Clough (he was definitely playing) hat-trick for them.

September 1966 v. Swindon. My grandfather took my cousin and myself and we sat in the South Stand. Won 3-0 (Biggs, Hamilton, Hillard). Still have the programme. I was 6 years old...

Thought Clough played for Middlesborough ? Anyway I first went in the mid 60's. Very little tinkering then and the team picked itself - Hall,Hillard,JonesG, Oldfield Davis,Mabbutt,Jar,an,Brown,Biggs,Hamilton,JonesR. Sometimes Geoff Bradford would play, but he was close to retirement. My dad warned me that Rovers would never win anything worthwhile. I didnt believe him !

Remember the game well. Lived in Burnham on Sea at the time and on bordering train home at Temple Meads a few Swindon boarded the train and chased us up the carriages. Bearing in mind me & my mates were only 12.

Aged 4 years and 363 days (We used to count them then!) April 22nd 1957 v Liverpool 0-0!! About the same score as now, but not the Liverpool bit!! Got a season ticket for the South stand for my birthday with my Dad & my Uncle, but had to wait for a month to get it! Used to get a lift to the ground from Peter Hooper!

1974, a reserve match at Eastville v Oxford. 0-0 I think, dreadful ! First league match was v Sunderland in 1975 ish? We won 1-0 from a goal that I believe went in direct from a corner.

Around 58 years. Dad used to take me to reserve games at Eastville and I progressed to first team around 1960/61. No idea who the first opposition were for the first match but I was hooked from an early age and still can't resist. Loving the ifollow facility this season - watched the victory over Blackpool from the hills of Northern Thailand!

Sunderland that is. Me and my mate played a few games of table football with a couple of Sunderland lads in the Black lion. Surprise Surprise, the blue team always won, whoever was playing.
