August 5th, 1972 - I was 9 yrs old & my granddad took me to see Rovers in the Watney Cup final vs Sheffield Utd. We were in the Open end and I remember standing on a crush barrier and singing “Sheppard, Sheppard . . .” with all the grown-ups

Thought Clough played for Middlesborough ? Anyway I first went in the mid 60's. Very little tinkering then and the team picked itself - Hall,Hillard,JonesG, Oldfield Davis,Mabbutt,Jar,an,Brown,Biggs,Hamilton,JonesR. Sometimes Geoff Bradford would play, but he was close to retirement. My dad warned me that Rovers would never win anything worthwhile. I didnt believe him ! Brian Clough 204 goals in 222 appearances for Middlesborough and then 63 in 74 for Sunderland. Wish we had a striker with half of that scoring rate. Your mid-sixties side was one of my favourite sides. Great wingers - Jarman's skill to beat a full back matched on the other wing by the speed of Bobby Jones. They scored lots of goals as well. Alfie Biggs and Ian Hamilton at their peak was a prolific strike force and Farmer Brown was a sixties Stuart Sinclair. Guaranteed goals.

Hope you got the programme mate, they fetch about £30 these days in decent condition.... I've actually got all the home rags from the last season at eastville.... I thought the programmes from 85/86 were colourful, most actually (if I remember correctly) actually were printed with reference to the team we played so there were green, yellow, orange, red.... They all looked very different but followed the same theme.... One day I will get around to displaying them in a 4'x2' frame.... Shame I can't do that with 89/90 season rags because they all have the same picture of a ship on them....

First match was in 1952 taken by my late cousin. Eastville brings back many memories for me because at the age of eight, my hero was the finest striker Rovers ever had Geoff Bradford. Still a season ticket holder in the East stand because the old legs can’t stand for ninety minutes. I am often concerned by the negative views posted on this forum as I’ve seen some really bad times, but they have been more than outnumbered by the good times. Gas heads, keep believing.

First game was home against Nott's Forest in early April 1957, a week before my 7th birthday. A 3-2 win if my memory computes correctly. 61 years supporting the Rovers, not called gas in my early days although the smell from the old coke ovens at the gasworks lives long in the memory. My car plate is DE57GAS. My initials, year I first saw the quarters and Gas for obvious reasons.

Rovers v Sunderland 1961. Lost 3-2. Geoff Bradford scored both goals for us and if memory serves me right a Brian Clough (he was definitely playing) hat-trick for them. Was at the Muller Road end when Cloughy scored from miles out at that end.Eastville pitch not the biggest but such a stunning strike we were all dumbstruck. Not sure if for M'boro or S'Land.

1974, sat on wall of south stand with my brother trying not to get hit by the ball or catch foot on the hare cables. The rivers of steaming water in the black painted concrete urinals at half time was quite an impactful memory when you are 6 (and not very tall) as was the flood of fans on to Stapleton road and my dad keeping us away from marauding youths in flares and platform heals. I still have my rosette somewhere

1967. 1st April vs Peterborough, 1-1. As a spotty young teenager, on the South stand terracing.

Sat in the north stand at eastville in 1966 to watch the gas against Middlesbrough, I think we won 1-0, but Bernard hall our goalkeeper suffered an awful head injury and never played again for the Rovers.

1990 was a wee 7 year old. leyland daf final Wembley. (Glory supporter). Took interest in football and leant towards rovers even tho I’m w-s-m born and sadly still here. My dad was a coach driver at the time (he’s a peterboro fan, as he was born there) and got a job driving the gasheads from Weston to Wembley that day. He asked if he could have the 2 front seats for me and my bro and the rest is a lot of History. First heroes were Big Dev, Carl Saunders, and Brian Parkin. I used to be them at school all the time. Oh memories.

Either 1994 or 1995, don't remember who we were playing, but I remember Paul Miller scoring, and I think Stewey (my first Gas hero) also scored. Twerton Park even seemed big to me at the time!

My first glimpse of a match at Eastville as an 8 year old was a Western League Division 1 Saturday game between Bristol Rovers Colts and Trowbridge Town on the 15th February 1958. Dad was driving past the ground and we called in to see part of the match. I have recently established that Rovers won the game 5-0 and the attendance was 3,700.
My first proper match was a Division 2 end of season evening game on 30th April 1959 against Sheffield Wednesday that we won 2-1 before 16,653.
My most recent game Barnsley away on 27th October - another defeat, this time 1-0.

2005 vs Boston United. Can't remember the score. But I remember standing at the bottom of the blackthorn and listening to Irene goodnight for the first. Been obsessed ever since.

Rovers Vs Huddersfield at Wembley, 1995.
Sadly, I don’t actually remember the match.
Maybe a year or two later my first home match at the Mem? I think I remember us playing Orient or Brentford when the roofs weren’t yet fitted
