Autumn 1952 against Torquay United in the old Div 3 South. There are three generations of Gasheads in our family; you and one or two others have been watching Rovers since before any of us were even born! part timers!

Amazing how many Gas are from your part of the South West. I wonder why? Are there many reds in Norton and surrounding areas. I can see why playing at Twerton helped but many Gas in that area pre date Twerton.

This thread is brilliant.... Well it's brilliant at making me feel young.... 1985 v burnley 4-0 Randall masterclass.... Remember being at this game. It was my first time in The South Stand (or terrace by then) after the disastrous fire. The ground looked pretty pathetic at the end.

First game, feb 1973 aged 9 winning 2 - 0 v Bournemouth. Don't remember much except Bournemouth fans being on the terrace (possibly South Stand) too with their red and black scarves.

First game......1947 playing against a team in red - I think it was Reading or Brentford. Weare in goal, Mcarthur in defence etc. My father sat me on the wooden railing around the greyhound photo finish, South Enclosure. Tony Spiller - who later became the teams' mascot also sat there later when the games started.
It was a long journey by bus from Bedminster - changing at Old Market and catching the 'football specials' back to Old Market after the match from outside Eastville Police Station/Williams Automobiles!!! Buses were the main transport of the 25/30 thousand!!!!! Rarely missed a match - happy days.

1962 first game of our relegation season from Div. 2 against Liverpool who'd been languishing there for 7 seasons. They were promoted that season. They beat us 2-0. I don't think we scored a goal until something like the 7th game that season when we lost 3-2 to Plymouth.

Home to Bournmouth & Boscombe Athletic March 1967. Drew 1-1. Second in the league to QPR. Remember running up and down the terrace of the South Stand as a 6 year old as if it was yesterday, hooked ever since even though I lived in Hartcliffe. Taken by my beloved Aunt who was a season ticket holder and lived 5 minutes from the ground. Graduated to the Tote in early 70s.

That must have been pretty special.

I can't remember my actual first game but it was in the early/mid 1960's. I lived in Downend at the time and I know that my father took me to my first few games as a treat and I was hooked from there.
Strangely, my earliest memories were of the GAS playing in solid Blue Shirts and I can't remember playing in the Quartered Shirts until much later in my Rovers Career. Some of my best remembered early games were against Aston Villa (what a great side they had at that time). After the first few games accompanied by my father, my parents then let me come on my own (I stood in the North Enclosure in those days). I could only have been 10 or 11 at that time and it seemed a great adventure making the trek across north Bristol on my own (Buses and Trains followed by a brisk walk from Stapleton Road Station).
My early Idol was Haaaarrrrrrrolllllldddddddd but I did have a soft spot for the various Jones's that we seemed to have in the side at the time too.
Great days - hooked for life!!!!!!!

I cant remember the exact game but it must have been the last season at Eastville (when I was 5/6) before having a ST at Twerton Park, and have had a ST every since.

Realising that they had missed my 6th birthday, my next door neighbours at the time (Nigel & Brian England - RIP both) decided to make it up to me by taking me to see Rovers v Tranmere in April 74, which we won 1-0. I remember being sat on the perimeter hoarding at Eastville with my legs dangling over the edge of the greyhound track so that I could see more easily and being told off by a steward. Fortunately I loved the blue and white shirts so much that it didn’t put me off and I’ve been Gas ever since, much to the chagrin of my dad and his family who were all reds! So it’s true, “get em while they’re young!”

Rovers v West Ham 1957-58. Lost 3-2, stood in the North enclosure with my Dad. Remember nothing of the game apart from one of the West Ham players taking out Jackie Pitt, and he slid for about 10 yards face down in the mud by the touch line. We got the football special bus from Kingswood Park, Bradford, Biggs, Ward and Hooper would have been playing, along with Norman Sykes, who opened up a small corner shop in Whitehall Rd around that time, painted blue and white. I was 8, and Dad took to to the Cup matches at Eastville that season, won 5-0 against Mansfield, then held First Division Burnley 2-2, thanks to a late Burnley own goal to give us a draw. We won the replay 3-2, can still remember him coming up to tell me the result, as I was in bed waiting to hear. No Radio Bristol in those days, you had to wait for BBC TV to give the night's scores late on. He wouldn't take me to the famous 4-3 win at Ashton Gate in the next round, due to the big crowd. That was the year we reached the FA cup quarter finals, in those days, such was the Rivers reputation as a cup side, you almost expected them to win against top flight clubs. It was the year of the Munich air crash, we lost in the sixth round away to Fulham, who were also a Duvision 2/ Championship side, who then lost to the 'new' Manchester United in the semi final.

I first saw Rovers in February 1949, I was 8 years old. Rovers were playing Swansea Town as they were then known. My father took me as I had been pestering him to go. All the young kids were passed over the heads of the fans and sat on the dog track during the game. Rovers were losing 1 - 0 and were given a penalty in the last minute. Ray Warren scored, and that was it, a fan for life ! I missed a few years as a regular as I played football until I was 44 years old. Since then I have had years of following our Club and have been a season ticket holder for more years than I can remember. Some brilliant times, some mediocre and some awful, but I can't get it out of my system. Hope I survive to see a new ground or redevelopment of the Memorial Stadium

This crowd at the Muller Road End, Eastville, from the 1950’s shows why some of us long serving gasheads were only allowed to go to reserve games when we were youngsters.

This could well be a picture of the Man United cup match in 1956. The Man United # 3 being Roger Byrne who died in the Munich crash.

I've been told my first game was in 1979 but as I was only 2 or 3 I don't remember anything about it.
The first season I have any memories of would be 1981/82.
