I'm going to nail my colours to the mast and say I think Ben Garner should get the managers job here if he wants it. Yesterday he was 16/1 with certain bookmakers. As Tony Pulis has said of him in the past: “Ben has it in him to one day step into the manager’s role. He’s got the potential.” He has worked at close quarters with some good people like Holloway, Pulis, Warnock, Pardew, Venables, Lennie Lawrence and Gerry Francis, will have surely built up a good contact list and with his reputation in the game managers will be willing to send loan players to us as they know they will be entering a good working environment and receive top class coaching. He helped bring through talents such as Victor Moses, Nathaniel Clyne, Wilfried Zaha, Sean Scannell and Jonny Williams at Crystal Palace. He has gone on to coach 200 games at the senior level – most of them in the Premier League. During 2012/2013 season he was promoted to Crystal Palace First Team Coach under then manager Ian Holloway. On 27 May 2013 Crystal Palace were promoted to the Premier League after beating Watford 1-0 AET at Wembley in the Championship Play-Off Final. Garner remained as First Team Coach in the 2013/2014 season when Tony Pulis was appointed as Ian Holloway’s successor on 23 November 2013. Crystal Palace retained their Premier League status for the first time in the club’s history finishing in 11th place and Pulis won the LMA Manager of the Year award. Has the UEFA PRO licence and the LMA Diploma in Management, as well as a having a degree in sports science and a diploma in neuro-linguistic programming, he has learned Spanish. He was linked with the Nottingham Forest and Bradford City jobs and I think he could prove a good short and long term appointment for us. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Garnerwww.londonnewsonline.co.uk/ex-palace-coach-garner-has-the-know-how-to-manage-at-the-highest-level/footballcoaching.co.nz/ben-garner-previous-premier-league-first-team-coach-uk/the72.co.uk/115156/ben-garner-bradford-citys-potential-new-manager/If hes good enough for Gashead Wes he's good enough for me.

Quality player before his injuries. Southampton academy player of the year and played in the Championship as a 17-year-old.

I think it would be a good choice, obviously financially cheap with no compensation which could go towards players budget and a good move with lots of contacts and experience with promotion. Compo for GC and someone who could bring In good Loan players and a more tactical brain than GC A positive move by the board if so

I am sure Pirate has highlighted many many players on here & I don’t know if he recommends to the club as a scout, some may never work out, some may work out elsewhere but not here & visa versa. Some he highlights may never be possible to get here. I looked at players like White & Menssah Nichols, for example & thought they could do well here, but for reasons it didn’t work out, I think it shows how difficult getting recruiting right. You have top managers who pay millions for a player & it just don’t work

Looking at all the candidates so far you are probably right in saying this is the best fit. It’s whether the board think he has enough “experience” leading from the touch line. Personally I think it’s a great shout. What the real problem is if he even applied for the job. Seeming as the board seem to be waiting on CVs they receive Yeah I saw the job on indeed.com, was thinking off giving it a bash, but was put off by the bit that said you have to be self employed, provide your own training ground and zero hours contracted.

At least you'll meet the "no previous managerial experiance required" criteria.

Again, the majority of those names were well known to talent spotters around the lower leagues and below. It would be interesting to see a comparison in numbers between those you've highlighted and those who have gone on to enjoy career success.

Not well enough for Bristol Rovers though, who thought Austin was playing at too low a level to bother with.

Given the sort of players we have then Ben Garner would be the worst type of manager (along with Tidsdale) we might choose. We need to carry on in the same vein as Coughlan but Garner seems to be the opposite. This is a lad with a big ego and I read somewhere that Gary Megson binned him ASAP. He apparently over eggs his role in the team. Holloway is the right type to carry on Coughlan’s good work.

Such a big ego that he gave his time free of charge to help Rovers fans with mental health difficulties by running a coaching session followed by an inspirational talk for the Community Trust/NHS project. gasfishponds can confirm because he has actually met Garner. Rickie Lambert certainly speaks highly of him and there were reports at the time that the WBA players were unhappy with his removal.

Lambert let it be known how he is looking to break into a coaching role as soon as possible. He was always going to big up Garner in return for said role. That’s how networking operates. And christ, no one does it better than Garner.
