I would too. I remember when we announced that mccrystal Mansel and Easter were all being released from the playing squad our form dropped dramatically because we had very few leaders. I’d keep Sinclair until he retires and then give him a job behind the scenes such as youth coach / club ambassador for example. Craig would could also make a good coach or assistant perhaps. Keep Sincs for life as a club ambassador or mascot! With GC now in charge there is presumably a defensive coach vacancy - Craig could be player-coach but mainly as back up from the playing perspective? That sounds like a great idea, but I don't think our owners are that sentimental.

Sincs is only 31, are we really going to pay him another 3 or 4 years wages just so we can then give him a job when he quits paying when he's 34/35 like most players? Where do we draw the line do we do something similar for Lines as well as w/o him we could well be still a Conference side. Unless Cog's finds a role for Sincs in the team, which seems difficult now he's signed Ogogo, I'd have thought Sincs would be looking for a 2 year playing contract elsewhere this summer.

Got to keep your leaders , success is built on them. I believe we have just signed one

Well lots of contracts are up this year (unfortunately not Paynes although I think the shrews will have him back and probably on a free) Personally I wouldn't keep Sinclair, he seems to have long periods of injury, the last two being concussion. Maybe it is time for him to give up full time footy. Craig is another whose contract is up. Personally I would give him another year, but his family still live in London so he might want to go home.

No you're right. We should never keep anyone on in any capacity once they reach the end of their playing career! Do you not think someone with Sincs' attitude and commitment would have any value to the club, particularly with academy players or on the community side of things? I'd even have him as kit man if he wanted it. His enthusiasm is infectious.

I don't think keeping Sincs as a mascot is a very good idea. If you made him dress up as Captain Gas there'd be a bit of beard conflict going on!

That might depend on how desperate we were to get rid though I would have thought our defence would rather face Payne than Campbell the young lad from Stoke who we were linked with a few weeks ago. But Sod’s law would happen then wouldn’t it? So perhaps best not to tempt fate. And can you imagine the reaction in the Mem if Payne scored the winner? Probably find ourselves on an FA charge! (Joke!) UTG! He’s still our player, sure we can choose to not allow him to play that game?

Ive really taken to coughlan,so want him to succeed. Love his full on enthusiasm and his praising up the players to build up their confidence. Quite like the fact he might make a gaffe during interviews because of his personality. Also you can sense that although he wants to encourage and praise his players he is not someone you would want to get on the wrong side of. Very clever what he has done with holmes-dennis,rodman,reilly and nichols especially. Very cute how he managed to get payne and bennett off the wage bill.I thought you loved Bennett? in fact I think you started a thread about it.... gaschat.co.uk/thread/12390/kyle-bennett-wow

Looking at coughlan's selections since he has been in charge it seems clear he wanted to get him and payne out to fund incoming players. In fairness i think you mentioned that he got involved in running arguments with refs and opponents before we signed him and this proved to be true with rovers and damages his game without a doubt.

From what I saw of him before we signed him and from Portsmouth fans that I know, he flatters to deceive, has no end product and cant score.
I admit I thought we had turned him into a more consistent performer but never really continued his good start. Shame really as he does try to make things happen and we could do with more creativity on the wings.

I love his comments when asked about going back to Southend. He clearly doesn’t lack self-belief!:
“It didn’t really bother me to be honest. There was no sentiment about coming back to my old club. This is club I have given a lot of loyalty too and helped build up from the base and they decided to sack me.
“I have got no issues with them, they decided to sack me, they let a good man go, so there was no sentiment for me at all.”
