We've already approved plans for the Mem, I don't get why we have to reinvent the wheel, if the ALQ's want to rebuild the Mem they just need to bring the plans up to date and then attempt to get pp. Although I wouldn't hold my breath that happen anytime soon! That would mean moving away for 2 years as they'd have to move the pitch. The plan also included student flats etc which probably isn't needed now. I'm exploring the possibility of what we could do stand by stand, without moving away to Cheltenham Did we ever have plans approved to just improve the Mem, you know, with some new stands etc without the need to turn the pitch around?

I remember the Blackthorn End being torn down and completely rebuilt. Can't remember the year, early 2000's I remember seeing an artist's impression in the news paper but I can't find it anywhere online at the moment

So do we have any planning permission for anything still in play? Yes, our non-existent big screen! April 13th. It'll be there.

Yes, our non-existent big screen! That's pretty much it sadly! None of the plans are actively approved. Great. So we're where we are with tents, caravans selling food, toilets under an inch of p1ss, a pa system that doesn't work and not a single word from the owner. Ah well, back to normal then.

It's ok, part of my hobby in my free time is building stadiums on google sketch up. Normally I go for a standard, unlimited space type stadium. For the first time Im trying to build one on the current Mem ground without moving the pitch. It holds roughly 18,000 - get your cheque book out Wael

Maybe a cashpoint card.

There was permission granted for a 6,000 seater stand at the North side of the ground. The council have always been supportive of the club when plans have gone in for developing the site. And providing interested parties are consulted properly I think the club would be allowed to develop the Mem. But as pointed out before, don't think AQ's wallet runs to paying for redevelopment of the Mem. Building never went ahead as club had no money at the time.

There's no record of any such planning submission on the council's planning archive. Maybe it was planned, but not submitted. I don't recall anything.... Here's the mems archive, worth a read through anyway: planningonline.bristol.gov.uk/online-applications/pagedSearchResults.do?action=page&searchCriteria.page=1

If I can remember the thread I'll repost it, showed that there's a lot of room to build a respectable two tiered North stand if we wanted to.

myalbum.com/album/Q9vwJK3MHIdCThe finished stadium development. Roughly 18,000, with the view to expand the North Terrace, I originally started building it 2-tiered but ultimately didn't like the look of it. South stand only goes roughly 2 metres higher than the current. West Stand is actually lower. North Stand is bigger as is the East (obviously). One of the big things I did to also save space was move closer to the pitch. Currently the Mem has 4m roughly between the Blackthorn & the pitch. The West stand is even further due to the slope. Ended up putting a load of gates on the West stand as the path is only 3 metres wide, so it helps with queues. South stand is now the away end & due to space, is only accessible via the side. Actually the most I enjoyed building a stadium as a hobby. Looking forward to Wael's call

Can anybody recall why that never went ahead, as why get pp then never proceed with the plans? So BCC have given us pp 3 times for Mem redevelopment but we've never proceeded with one of them.

The dog and it's reflection mate: In the story, a dog that is carrying a stolen bone, or piece of meat or cheese, looks down as it is crossing a stream and sees its own reflection in the water. Taking it for another dog carrying something better, it opens its mouth to bark at the "other" and in doing so drops what it was carrying. The story's moral, according to John Lydgate's versified Isopes Fabules, is that the one 'Who all coveteth, oft he loseth all.'
