Great player at times in the past, not the future of our club. Thanks for your efforts Chris and very good luck for the future.

Perhaps Lines should refrain from backchatting supporters in the social media world & stop himself having to delete tantrum tweets, it may be a start to showing the right attitude in looking to get back into the side. Whatever the reason for his omission, throwing his dummy out & listing the contents of his trophy cabinet online certainly isn’t the way to go about changing that. He’s served the club well but the last 18months have been littered with below average performances. The main highlights being the most ridiculous red card away at Fleetwood 12months ago and the infamous Pompey sub appearance. His showings under DC earlier this term, were nothing but dross. I don’t recall him having a single decent game, yet here are we listening to some make out that Iniesta in his prime is currently being left out. All the current bleating from some sections is purely a stick to beat GC with, nothing more. Disagree with most of what you have said, I am afraid.
I'd probably agree that players would be better staying off social media, but I can't agree with the thought that an individual should put up with direct attacks from trolls and idiots, without a chance to say something back. I don't pretend to know every tweet or reply Chris has made, but the vast majority I see from him are supportive of the club and his team mates, applauding the performances of others or highlighting the community work he or his colleagues do.
We've had 80% of our players performing below average over the last 18 months. Linking his absence from the team since GC tookover as the reason for the improvment draws the wrong conclusion IMO and without the addition of JCH we couldn't score enogh goals and probably would have gone down. I maintain that I would rather a fit and firing Chris Lines in midfiled than some others, particularly with the potency of JCH in attack. Singling out Lines performances as "dross" is just not accurate, whilst he is not admittedly Iniesta.
Your final point is way off the mark. I fully support GC and think he is doing a fantastic job having turned our season around. I just feel that Chris Lines brings more attacking potnetial to the side.
If there are other issues or problems, I hope Chris can sort them out and continue to contribute to the team.

Anyone able to post up how the supposed 499 appearances to date are broken down by club and competition

A fair and well structured response. All will be revealed soon enough, if he gets that (we assume what will be) final game in a Rovers shirt.

I always thought Lines was overrated during his first period with us even tho he could score some great goals from midfield.
I was not over the top excited when he came back to us under DC, but fair play he was a class above the conference and L2 when we got those promotions and played his part and did well. Will never forget that forest green goal at the mem!
He was ok in our first two seasons back in L1, but over the past 18 months has not been the same player. If we had a top 3 budget next season I would keep him as a back up player as he still has sonething to offer. We wont tho, and I guess he must be on £3 plus a week so its best he moves on.
He will end up at a local club like Swindon,Cheltenham, Newport etc...Maybe Yeovil.
I wish him all the best and hope he gets on for 2 mins tomorrow or we have a game for him during the summer.

icegas, I'm not CL's biggest fan, but I feel he deserves more than £3 plus a week.

I find this thread really good, "Good old Linsey, he deserves this, and this". Compare this to comments on here when he left us as we were going down. "Traitor and bastard were 2 that I remember". Unbelievable

I don’t get all this hysteria re Lines.
I can’t afford to fall out with my boss, if I do I get 4 weeks notice of pay and I’m done for.
Is this the same Chris Lines who fell out of favour with Dave Jones at Sheffield Wednesday and lost his championship career with them?
All this manager has done is take on a team 4 points adrift from safety, bombed out Payne and Bennett and not played Lines and got us 4 points from relegation and safe this season.
Lines never stayed around like Parkes, Macca, Mildy and others when we went down a league and these boys went non league. He’s paid well and he should have got on with his job and does anyone in here actually know what has gone on before we hang Coughlan?
Too much sentiment in our fan base, the same players in December has us lose 4-0 to Doncaster and now the hard man who has kept us up is Dr Evil.

Paul buckle off loaded Lines the year we came down as saw straight through him, just as Coughlan has. This Lines love in is because he is a ‘Bristolian ’. At no point has he been great or a legend or in my mind that creative. In fact he has never been the best midfielder in the squad in any season at any point whilst with the club at any point in his career.

Unbelievable I find it amusing also as these are probably the same fans who said nothing when Walker and Igoe were frozen out and they at least provided some memories never to be forgotten

The 500 game thing is a red herring. He’s not retiring. He’ll go past that mark, which is not just for Rovers, it’s over his full career. I do agree he should get a send-off though. He’s been a fine player for us and will be hard to replace. Totally. The biggest reason for our lack of creativity and goals this season was not having a replacement lined up already for him.

You talk of hysteria and then go on to suggest anyone who questions GC as our long term manager think him to be Dr Evil. Your own little bit of hysteria! Nothing wrong with a bit of sentiment in football, you'd think we were talking about giving Harold Jarman a final run out in the quarters the way some are talking. Lines is still a very good footballer and plenty good enough for league one and more skilful than the vast majority of our squad. I don't think Parkes, Macca or Mildy would have turned down the opportunity Lines had of playing in the championship and massively increasing their wages in the same circumstances.
