Paul buckle off loaded Lines the year we came down as saw straight through him, just as Coughlan has. This Lines love in is because he is a ‘Bristolian ’. At no point has he been great or a legend or in my mind that creative. In fact he has never been the best midfielder in the squad in any season at any point whilst with the club at any point in his career. The astute football thinker that is Paul Buckle 😂 The same buckle who brought in Lee Brown.

I remember at the time you called him a "Frigid monkey w**ker". How would you spot a frigid monkey? With a paint brush.

I find this thread really good, "Good old Linsey, he deserves this, and this". Compare this to comments on here when he left us as we were going down. "Traitor and bastard were 2 that I remember". Unbelievable I find it amusing also as these are probably the same fans who said nothing when Walker and Igoe were frozen out and they at least provided some memories never to be forgotten So you don't give CL any credit for the fact when he joined us we were languishing in mid table in the Conference but then helped us to two consecutive promotions followed by two top 12 Div 1 finishes, a period during which we had the best home record in English football. Plus he played a big part in our first win under GC v Fleetwood. Personally I feel he deserves a bigger send off than Lee Brown, who was treated like a Rovers legend this time last season but with hindsight simply left us for a better contract and prospects elsewhere. Whereas Lines his likely to have to step down a league to get a new contract, unless he's already got one with us and that's the real reason GC's trying to freeze him out. Which is pretty sad if that's the case.

Anyone able to post up how the supposed 499 appearances to date are broken down by club and competition has too much time on their hands.quote] Seriously though I’d be interested to see that too.

This isn’t a deliberate knocking of the lad, but am I right in thinking he didn’t score a single goal for us in the 2015/15 promotion season? Or am I losing it in my twilight years. Quite incredible if true, given he was an ever present that season.,

We were hardly mid table or struggling. Far from it, we’d lost two of our previous 21 games, winning 11, drawing 8 So no, I don’t give him any extra credit over anyone else for being part of a play-off winning side.

The posts knocking linsey are disrespectful and hugely uncalled for. He’s played a massive part in our promotions over the last few years. Diddnt have a great start this season but let’s be honest we’ve been sh** all over the park ( in an attacking sense ). Linsey has been a great servant to our club , so linsey , if you’re reading this , thank you for everything!

I don’t get all this hysteria re Lines. I can’t afford to fall out with my boss, if I do I get 4 weeks notice of pay and I’m done for. Is this the same Chris Lines who fell out of favour with Dave Jones at Sheffield Wednesday and lost his championship career with them? All this manager has done is take on a team 4 points adrift from safety, bombed out Payne and Bennett and not played Lines and got us 4 points from relegation and safe this season. Lines never stayed around like Parkes, Macca, Mildy and others when we went down a league and these boys went non league. He’s paid well and he should have got on with his job and does anyone in here actually know what has gone on before we hang Coughlan? Too much sentiment in our fan base, the same players in December has us lose 4-0 to Doncaster and now the hard man who has kept us up is Dr Evil. Sorry, but your first line is nonsense. Wednesday - a bigger club and a division up from Rovers - had been trying to sign Chris Lines for much of the summer of 2011. They eventually paid a fee (OK only £50k, but that is about par for the course for any sales from Rovers) after the first League game under Buckle. Lines was then pretty much ever present in the Wednesday side that finished second in League 1 on 93 points and got promotion.
You are telling me that Gosling, Mansell, Balanta, Sinclair or Monkhouse were better midfielders than Chris Lines in the 2014-15 season?

Quite incredible if true, given he was an ever present that season., He scored no goals in 33 games. If you mean the 14/15 season, Lines played 11 games and scored the first goal in the the 2-0 home win against Forest Green in the play off semi final.
The following season Chris Lines got 8 assists from 36 appearances and as anyone knows, he was playing in a deep midfield role for the majority, if not all of the season.
I can't believe the disrespect that is being heaped in Chris' direction by some on here.

I remember your running tirade against Chris Lines in 2015. Wasn't it you who stated prior to the 2015/16 season; "If DC is planning to build his team around CL we will be in a relegation dog fight before Xmas".
That didn't go as you expected did it.

Our most creative player in our previous four seasons without a doubt . Up there with Billy Bodin, Matt Taylor , Lee Brown etc as one of our most important but created more goals than anyone. Needs wide players to hit with his great long passes alongside overlapping fullbacks to be at his best , he’s controlled so many games during that run and would have struggled in the narrow grinding but successful formation we’ve played to keep clear this season. If Cogs leaves and a new man who wants wingers/ inside forwards with overlapping fullbacks comes in I wouldn’t be surprised to see lines start our first match next season. Any league 1 manager who wants a playmaker in the middle with fast attacking wide players who love a through ball would consider him. The opinions of him on here recently remind me of Lee Brown last season. So many slagged him off too. Browny and lines have been our highest assists creators over the last four years , season on season. This season we’ve not had brown and hardly had lines and we’ve created f**k all. People have got short memories. If he’s fit for next season then he’s capable , in terms of ability , to be an important playmaker for a league 1 or 2 side next season. I don’t know if he’s hardly played this season because he’s unfit , personal problems , fallen out with the manager , who knows but we’ve missed the Chris lines who can control a game so badly this season. I hate the thought of us neither keeping nor replacing him next season because if we don’t we will be utter crap to watch.

I’m sure I heard on the radio this week that Bristol Rugby announce the players they are releasing before the last home match so they can give them a special presentation to thank them for their time at the club. I hope Linsey gets a chance to say goodbye properly if he is leaving. Deserves a decent send off his time at the club.
