Not sure if it's been mentioned as I have not read through all of the pages. But so far all 5 teams that finished lower in the table, have made it to the finals! A Doncaster come back tonight, would complete the set.

Sky commentators keep reminding viewers that away goals have not counted as double for 20 years. When they did, didn't we go through at Port Vale?, with flukey goal from Miller?

Was at Crewe I think .. remembering four of us leaving early to go to the game. Ran in to a dozen or so Wolves fans in a service station on their way to Bolton ... luckily they were in generous spirits.

Yes, was in extra time at Crewe. Don’t think Miller knew much about it!

London clubs always lucky so Charlton? L2 would like Newport as Tranmere better than FGR but Harwood dirty and should have been sent off early in 1st leg and was the reason Winchester got sent off 2nd. Villa in Championship as can outlast Derby?

Penalty shoot out at The Valley. I thought it was an unfair advantage that the penalties HAD to be taken in front of the Charlton fans due to "safety reasons" rather than being decided by the toss of a coin!? Anyone know why? Surely if a pen was awarded at the Donny end during the course of the game, they wouldn't have made the team take it from the other end!?

I can’t remember away goals ever counting double in any game ever. I’m being pedantic perhaps but hasn’t the away goal rule always just been that whoever scores the most away goals win on away goals ? If the away team went 1-0 up the scoreboard didn’t say 2-0 I genuinely could be wrong but don’t think I am ?

So Charlton v Sunderland it is. A classic play off fixture from the 90s if I remember correctly.

I watched it in a sports bar on holiday, managed to escape the family carnage for almost 3hrs and the game did not disappoint. Must have been the 1997/98 season. 4-4 after extra time with Niall Quinn grabbing a brace & Clive Mendonca scoring a famous Wembley hat trick. Unfortunately the phone will be ringing off the hook at the Mickey Gray residence next few weeks, poor soul!

Perhaps the shootout being at the Charlton end was just part of the advantage that the higher ranked team, playing the second leg at home, deserved?

Try explaining that to the Liverpool fan who rang talksport following one of their home ties in the champions league this year. Made a complete fool of himself by saying he was confident of going through because if Liverpool scored three the opposition would need to score six !!!

This is where many fans get their information from.
