There’s no point being technically gifted and creative if you can’t use it! Give me a big dev or Heskey type any day over this so called “talent”!

TN imo can't be played up top every week guaranteed. If GC isn't looking at finding a striker, I be both surprised and disappointed.
TN could be useful to play as a creative midfielder, but unless he took to the ground running banging goals in I don't see how he can play most games again.
If there is an expectation that JCH is going to score as freely as he did we could be in for another horror season.

If he left, I wouldn't be disappointed!

Puts in a shift but unfortunately that's not all we need upfront. As many others have said on here already, I'm surprised he hasn't been put in an attacking midfield role as that seems like a great fit. Would love to see him bag a few next season but I just don't see it happening.

I’ve heard within the game and this is common with a lot of players and clubs, we are happy to keep Tom but his agent has been told if he find another club he can leave. Clubs have been made aware Nichols can leave us and he’s been told this because he won’t be first choice next season.
Payne, Bennett and Craig have been told the same.
You are looking at approximately £12k plus here a week in wages and you can argue none of the 4 mentioned warrants a starting place in a top half Div1 side week in week out. I think 3 of these players are actually of Div2 standard, Craig is getting older, Nichols can’t score Div1 goals let alone consistently, Payne is fodder and only Bennett who plays for himself maybe able to muster a Div1 career.

He looks a good player to me, but he's sadly lacking in one aspect of his game. The one that involves scoring goals.
I'd give him until Christmas to prove himself under GC, because he does contribute a lot, but at some point it might be necessary to say enough is enough.

Are we really going to be stuck with him for another season? Utter disbelief! How many chances can one player get? I get that he runs about and tries but he has no end product! What’s the point in flogging this dead horse! I’d take the losses and get shot of him! Imo we must move on and move him on!!! He seems nice enough, I know he tries hard and can link play but we need so much more than that! No end product but probably our top assister last season?

Tom is an enigma. Clearly has talent but ultimately, if he is a striker he has to score goals. Two years like he's had suggests not so much bad luck or a bad run, but not quite good enough at this level.
That said, we surely look a better side with him in it. I'd persist with him, but maybe in a role just behind the lone striker when we play like that, or linking midfield and a fromt two when we're more adventurous. But as one of a two up front, it just hasn't worked.

Are we asking a lot of £600k of strikers in Nichols and Payne to score double figures between them? This is why we never finished in the top half and why DC lost his job.

You can’t change a style of play though to suit one player and at our level and especially with our budget you can’t set up a whole team for him to play in the hole. Liverpool and Barcelona can do it with the likes of Coutinho but we are Bristol Rovers. Bennett is now the highest paid player we have with Clarke Harris, we can take Jonson earning big bucks because he delivers. Before anyone asks how do I know this, how did I know 4 weeks ago we were signing the 6ft 6 bald bloke?! Premiership striker agreed on loan, he can’t come in until 1 week before our season starts.

I would agree that Payne is a waste of space and was a terrible signing. But Nichols clearly has more about him than that, albeit obviously hasn't scored the goals be was brought in for. I'd agree that the failure to replace probably £2.5m.of striking talent adequately with around £550k probably did cost DC his job in the end. As it would any manager, as that task was just not likely to be achieved. My point though is that top half is unrealistic for us. Coughlan should be able to produce a side that can stay in the league comfortably (and hopefully by playing some better football along the way), but expecting us to be a top half side is fanciful, in my opinion.

I can only hope Alfie Kilgour is the real deal, as not having Tony Craig as first choice centre half this year, particularly having lost Lockyer, could be a huge mistake.

We have one hell of a player in Davies from Coventry, Alfie, Mayenese and another will be fine. Craig can’t play in our new formation and style of play this season. We are playing a high press high tempo game and you need pace and legs to play this which Craig no longer has.

Nichols does a job for us so maybe this season he will score more ~ he is a good footballer so we should just see how things pan out under a new team structure and manager ~ he scored before he joined us so maybe it's about our style of play and how he is asked to play ? Someone says that every year, and he doesn't. Just 2 league goals in 2 seasons from open play. How long we have already kept him is mind boggling. Thanks clarke It's just the one goal from open play, the tap in against Milton Keynes and a converted penalty against Peterborough. Had a season ticket both seasons but couldn't make either of those matches so I am still yet to see him score a goal. I would be a lot more forgiving if, as mentioned above, he didn't go down so easily that really gets my goat about some players.

I hope it’s true for Nichols/Payne/Bennett tho.

I was finding it hard to get enthusiastic about GC, but he does seem to be shipping out a lot of dead wood. Like the looks of the new ass man too, seems like a decent bloke.
Ditch Matthews, Nichols, Payne, Bennet and the young winger we loaned out to Lincoln and we could build a decent team.

I don't really get why fans think TN playing behind JCH will improve his game, I doubt he'll get more than 7 assists nor will he be liable to score more goals so what do we gain?Plus we then have JCH having to battle away on his own upfront.
