Ched Evans raped someone. He got an overturned ruling in a very strange case within which most of the evidence they had against this 19 year old woman would have been inadmissable in most courtrooms. His legal team was very very expensive and very skilled at finding technicalities to get his conviction overturned. There is actual concrete CCTV showing her completely out of it, he should have known. We should not be saying ‘it’s her fault for being drunk, ched has served his time as he’s a good footballer’. We should be holding footballers and men in general responsible as role models and say ‘Don’t rape women, and don’t take advantage of very drunk people who are vulnerable.’ If we signed Ched Evans i’d be very very upset at the club. We are a community based club and that signing would damage our reputation in the footballing world and the local community. At the end of the day he was found Not Guilty by the court system. We had the other player with him that night on loan at one point I believe. Exactly. His quashed conviction is no different to a not guilty verdict at the beginning of his trial. His conviction was not quashed because of a procedural error in evidence taking or because of some other piece of bureaucratic foul play. It was quashed on evidence presented or the lack of, to convict. It’s also worth remembering that the jury is independent, made up of men and women and it has to be a majority verdict to either uphold the guilty verdict or find him not guilty. Ched Evans cannot influence that jury in any way, regardless of who he is or how much money he may have. It’s one of those where the only people that really know what happened that night are the people involved. Junior Agogo was also once accused of attempted rape but was found not guilty whilst playing for us, did that alter your view of him whilst he was knocking goals in for us? I doubt it. If Ched Evans signed for us I would welcome him here like any other player.

If we a community based club as you say why did the club put the cost of disabled parking at the ground up by £40 to £170 ?

I wonder how many others have had sex whilst drunk and with a drunk woman ? Another example of trial by the mob. People really should read up on the case and then comment. Having read the transcripts that are available, he was very badly judged in the first case. Sadly, he will be tarnished for life now, regardless of the eventual overturn of verdict

I agree with innocent until proven guilty, people like Nile Ranger would be a no no but Ched Evans is innocent. Maybe he wouldn't do what he did again but the fact remains he has no criminal record so I'm ok with him signing for us, although I very much doubt we could afford his wages anyway.

Ched Evans raped someone. No he didn't. Fact. Thank feck we have started playing football again; we can hopefully get away from these sort of discussions and back to the real reason we follow this club.
I won't go into the semantics of this case; but he was clearly an idiot to cheat on his partner and get involved with this other woman knowing how high profile any incident off the pitch can be viewed.

An idiot - absolutely. Morally repugnant - indeed. Not a rapist though. But yes, agreed mate! Roll on August

Imagine if it were the GK that killed 2 kids whilst drunk driving. Now that is something I could not forgive nor forget yet he got back into the game. If we signed someone like him then I’d stop going, some things are beyond the pale

Saw a great hour long interview with Nile Ranger a couple of months ago. Seemed a lot more relatable than I'd have thought. He's clearly got ability but is so inconsistent. I think he revealed Holloway was a massive fan of him. Evans was found innocent so I don't know what else there is to say. Even if Ranger wasn't he's not good enough consistently.

Also...we signed Adam Smith! He wasn't exactly the perfect role model for a family oriented club

I’ll take the moment to say maybe my post was a bit rash. Thank you all for your more reasoned approaches - i’ll put it down to being up at 5am this morning for work!
Just makes my blood boil when you see people making the excuse of ‘he’s a good footballer’ when for all intents and purposes whether it was deemed rape or not he took advantage of a young drunk girl and cheated on his wife. Morally repugnant man who I would not enjoy playing for a team I very much care about.
