Congrats Mr Ed! Your life is over, nah it’s just beginning mate, enjoy! Bit cruel to submit the new arrival to a life of pain with Rovers but you have to pass something on right?! Interesting point. My son was born and brought up in London. I decided to gently persuade him (well Stalinesque indoctrination) that Rovers would be his team. Cue 25 years of mostly pain. A friend of mine is an avid Nottingham Forest fan. His son (aged 5) is a massive Spurs fan. He said he didn't want to give him the burden of following a team that hadn't even played in the top tier for (now) 20 years. I've been expecting a call from social services for some time. Don’t think I could deal with my kid supporting another team!! Football isn’t about (IMO) playing at the top level, it’s about the love of the game, family, promotions, relegations, unacceptable prices of sausage rolls, meeting the players in Asda, actually playing a role for your club and most importantly actually being able to attend games knowing the people around you are real fans, rather than tourists or arm chair supporters. Of course I’d love Rovers to be in the Prem, but chances are that they day we get there, it wouldn’t be the same Rovers we grew up loving.

I couldn't bare to see my kids not following Rovers. At least as a Forest fan he has an impressive stadium to take his children to. The Mem must resemble Castle Greyskull to my lad. Well actually he has probably never heard of He Man or Skeletor, I just do not know what the modern equivalent would be?

I grew up supporting the Gas with my Dad and despite it being an emotional rollercoaster as always, I have no regrets over choosing the Gas instead of the Prem big boys. I hope when I have kids I can persuade them to join me as Gasheads! My brother in law is a Sheed and he seems fine with my nephews being Liverpool and Tottenham fans. Each to their own but I'd do all I could to have them at least follow their local club as well.

1990 kit was my first ever kit. Design Windows was sown on and it was like running around with a cardboard sign on your chest. If it's a retro kit, logo and all, that would be fantastic Me too, classic kit but so tinpot at the same time. Bloody loved that kit! Think I still have it in the loft but may be a few sizes too small now... Yep. It's amazing how much those old shirts shrink whilst in storage. Must have used inferior quality material. 😊

But living in London it would have been "legitimate" to allow my son to follow any of wham, spuds, arse, chelski or even at a push Orient. It's almost definitely in the 10 commandments: "Thou must only allow thy children to follow the football team thy father supported, or one that is within but a bus-ride from thy birthplace. Those who chose to ignore this commandment shall be cast into the pits of hell and suffer eternal damnation. Especially manu supporters". Pretty sure that's how it goes anyway.

Not a dig at the OP but at what age do people stop caring so deeply about what a kit looks like? I think 30 should be the cut off. 15 may be more appropriate. I showed my 5 year old the video going back through the old kits and to be fair, he liked a lot of them, but when it got to the Tesco kit he just laughed!

Don't get me wrong I'm not disputing your points at all. I would of course like my children to support the Gas with me as we're seemingly a dying breed and it would be nice to share those memories together, but on the same token I live in Bristol so it would also represent them supporting their local team which I also hold in high regard. It doesn't mean I condemn those who choose differently, I just think it's a shame if a Bristolian kid with a Rovers or City supporting family, chooses to follow the masses and support one of the Prem teams instead of their local one.

Agree with this. I live the wrong side of Bristol and I prefer to see little ones running around in C*ty kits than Barca or Man City, etc. I do see the odd Rovers shirt which always makes my day!

The kit was tinpot, the club was tinpot, Gerry’s office was tinpot, but if I did it all again I’d choose to be a Gashead if only just to relive that season alone #3-0
