My best friend at school for a number of years was Steve White. Before he joined Rovers, we both played for Northavon under 18s and before that Frampton Rangers. It was very strange seeing a mate playing for the team you have always supported. We lost touch after I moved away from Bristol but I continued to follow his progress. Looking back, his main asset was his selfishness- he rarely passed the ball mainly because all he needed was a ball over the top and he would run on to it and usually slip it past the keeper. At school and at Frampton, he took a lot of criticism for being a bit greedy and arrogant but to be fair, he was just good at what he did and always wanted to be a pro. Many casual observers at the time thought that I was a better footballer than him but it all came down to his attitude and desire whereas I was too busy having a good time.I have not lived in the South West for forty years but my dad told me not long ago that he was managing Chipping Sodbury which is almost like him returning to his roots having been to school with me there.

I am part of the Morgan family (on my mother’s side) who had enough family members to field their own family team in the 1930s. Jimmy Morgan played for the Rovers in the 1950s and his uncle Jerry Morgan played in the 1920s. My grandparents lived near Eastville Park and it was great to hear the Eastville Roar when I was visiting them on a Saturday before I was old enough to go to matches. Another family member played for the City. We don’t talk about him 🙂

My dad played at Eastville in two trial matches. Wasn't taken on as played out of position in the second.
My brother went to school with Ian Holloway, I worked (briefly) with Chris Lines' sister.

My Uncle played back in the 50s. Some refer to the team he played in as the best team Rovers have had, especially in 52/53. He was Geoff Fox, but it was unfortunately before my time so I never got to see him play.

I have played with many players who have now gone on to be professional footballers and many that have made a good living out of the game. None played for rovers or broke into the first team though

I am good friends with Paul Randall. Also when George Petherbridge moved to Glastonbury I sat next to his son Terry and I am good friends with George's daughter, Kay. Sadly, George's wife, Rita, passed away last week and I will be attending her funeral on the 6th Aug.

Went to school with Gary smart, also my stepfather was with rovers in the 60's but he suffered a career ending broken leg I was his next door neighbour. Always having parties with loads of our players in attendance. Dined out on the goal at AG but I would too. Was very upset with Gould, who had him on the then youth training scheme and wouldn’t give him a liveable contract. Fit as a butchers dog, even after years away but playing at Bath. Great guy and goes to every home game He is a high grade martial arts man now.

We were then mixed with regular players and I had Holloway, Penrice in the side I was picked for. Colin Dobson politely asked me if I had any other sport I liked, at the end 😂. I can laugh now but cried at the time. Bristol parkway had a lot of talent.

I've known Jamie Cureton since he was 3yrs old. We grew up on the same estate in Eastville and even went to the same infant, junior and senior schools together' even though I am a couple of years older. Was called Germ and never Jamie.
