Posted earlier in the thread about me having been best mates with Steve White and playing alongside him for school, Frampton Rangers and Northavon Under 18s. Forgot to mention that in that that Frampton Rangers team was Gary Mabutt. He was three or four years younger than the rest of us but was so good that he got in the higher age group easily.
Also might mention that whilst playing for Northavon under 18s, we once came up against Bristol Under 18s and their 'star' player was Kevin Mabbutt. As a passionate Rovers fan, I was aware that Kevin was already on City's books and being a rather physical, combative player myself, I was keen to leave my mark so to speak. Luckily for me, my opportunity came when the ball ran loose from Kevin's foot and I stepped in to perform one of my famous block tackles. Unfortunately for Kevin, I mistimed things slightly and took him out completely just above the ankle. In those days, such tackles were commonplace and whilst the referee gave a free kick, he never even spoke to me. Kevin had to go off at that point and I felt a real sense of pride although looking back, I guess that I would have been quite upset if I had broken his ankle or leg- I remember my dad, also a gashead, cheering on the line as Kevin was helped off the pitch.

I played against Paul Randall a few times, I think he was playing for Glastonbury or street, he was my idol as a kid, I was playing out wide, but made sure I did my tracking back, just to get near him. Lovely bloke too

I went to Broadoak School In Weston Super Nightmare and was in the same class as Gareth Taylor We also played in the same club side, the mighty Milton Nomads. I was blatantly the better player, but he got the break One funny game at school v local rivals Wyvern, his old man ran on the pitch and punched the ref. He was a nutter mind. Welsh. He now works for one of Man City’s academy groups and my brother sees him a fair bit. Lovely bloke by all accounts! I went to Broadoak and played for Nomads too! Jamie Shore is also a former Nomads player, but before my time. i used to love banging a few in against Milton, I played for Bromley Heath, we always played pre season friendlies 👍🏽

Well, I taught Jason Roberts, and Nathan Ellington. (In fact I was in charge of admissions at that time and Nathans cousin Lisa went on and on about him. So we got him in and at 14 he was the Surrey Under 16 High jump champion. Jason Roberts was the year above, but also in his class was Clinton Chambers (Morrison) and Jodie Morris. The headteacher at that time was Phil don, and used to ref the kids matches wearing the EUFA kit. Good bloke. Justas I was thinking of retiring I taught Bruno Andrade.

I have no idea of the real situation but he feels very harshly and badly treated by the club and advice given him was apparently very poor

If I remember well then Gary Megson played for Frampton, alongside a few good players from Kingswood. Shaun Pinker was the stand out player, went to Arsenal before his lifestyle ruined any hope he had of being a pro. Such a shame, sweet left peg

Was a team mate of steve baddock at portway-bristol in the western league in the early 80's. Also dave stone was our manager and he played about 150 games for rovers in the 60's. Steve went to rovers from portway and played some games.

My family have a lot association with Rovers, uncle played in the 50”s finishing top ten goal scorer in clubs history, cousin was a England youth international whilst under the Rovers books in the 70’s, Dad has an offer of a professional contract but turned it down as being a postal worker was paying more wages again in the 50”s, myself had a trial played one game for reserves in the 70’s but a bad injury curtailed me having any prospects of becoming a professional, this is why Bristol Rovers will always be in my heart whatever happens

Such a shame, sweet left peg Shaun Pinker played for the Hillfields Cub Scout (139th) team in the early 1970s, as did Steve Owen, who played for the Rovers youth side a bit later on. My late father was the manager of the cub scout team and recommended a few young lads to the Rovers. As you say there were some good players in the area at the time and quite a few had trials for Rovers. Alas I was not one of them. Cheers Dad.

I am part of the Morgan family (on my mother’s side) who had enough family members to field their own family team in the 1930s. Jimmy Morgan played for the Rovers in the 1950s and his uncle Jerry Morgan played in the 1920s. My grandparents lived near Eastville Park and it was great to hear the Eastville Roar when I was visiting them on a Saturday before I was old enough to go to matches. Another family member played for the City. We don’t talk about him 🙂 I'm also of the Barton Hill Morgan family. My Uncle was Jimmy Morgan. You wouldn't reside in a Bristol Channel seaside resort would you? ;-)

I went to school from infants through to seniors with Mike Trought. Many a school lunchtime game played, after school, boys club and school team games played with him. You could always tell he was miles better than anyone else from the age of 8. I remember in junior school one lunchtime he was a bit off form and I nicked the ball off him then nutmegged him to go around him. He got so angry with that he pulled me back and kicked me up the arse! He was a great lad though and it was a shame he never kicked on after Ollie left and then became part of the drinking culture that ruined Simon Bryant’s career. He still lives around by my mum and dad and I still bump into him now and again. You go to bedminster down?? I know Mike.. absolutely lovely Bloke..not seen him for a few years . From the same area.. I seen him playing down highridge when he was about 15 with the first team and could see he was far better than anyone there. Yes I went to Bemmie Down from the age of 6 through to 16. I haven’t seen troughty for a good few years either. I hope he’s doing well though. Set up his own removals business if I remember rightly.
