Tom Nichols is like watching a half decent fifteen yr old lad trying to play men’s football. A few nice touches but ultimately bullied off the ball and pretty much ineffectual.

For me would have made more sense to loan him until January so if he did do well we could have him back for the second half of the season. BBC Radio Gloucestershire reporting that Reilly has in fact signed for Cheltenham on a 6 month loan deal but no word from either club yet.

It has got some comments from their boss too on that BBC article so it looks like a done deal. Just strange neither have club have announced it.
Good luck to him though. Seems a good deal for all involved.

Found the interview from the Cheltenham boss so it’s seems done and dusted. 6 months is about right, could come back and make an impact in the second half of the season if he does well in the first.

Coughlan doesn't sound too happy that it has been reported by the press before it was officially announced but he has also as good as confirmed it.
"This is the beauty of football. We haven't had any confirmation, it hasn't been decided and yet it seems to have appeared in the Scottish papers.
I have got my suspicions as to who has put it in the paper and where it has come from but I will clear it up."
"With the introduction of Tyler Smith and Victor Adeboyejo, Gavin found having five strikers at the club he didn't feel he could meet the challenge and gain regular first team football so he has asked if he could go out and get some first team football.
"I said not a problem, as soon as someone wants to step off the bus I open up the doors and let them off.
"I fully understand his wish to play regularly at his age [26], at his stage of his career having come down from Scotland as well. There is no prize for guessing how it has ended up in the Scottish papers."It is something Gav has chosen to do and I am not going to stop him because if he doesn't want to stay and fight I can't make him stay and fight for his place, stay and be competitive with the other four strikers. I can't make him stay. The ball is in his court.
"He wants to play first team football which we have to be respectful of and look, take me back six months and Kyle Bennett came to see me and he wanted guarantees of first team football and I just can't give guarantees so they go, they get the chance.
"If they are good enough to hold down a place they stay, if they play well they stay in, if not they come out.
"Gavin Reilly has just opted to explore his options."

I think going from Scotland 2nd tier to league 1 was maybe a bit of a step up for him ( sorry big jock) but he’s clearly got poaching ability as a striker and playing league 2 should hopefully get him playing regularly and scoring goals. He could come back to us a year from now ready for league 1 , if we’re still in league 1. People will say he’s got a better goals to game ratio than Nichols but Nichols is a league 1 standard footballer who played more killer passes for goals than any other Rovers player last season, thank god or we would have gone down with no other creative or technical player available. I’m not convinced Reilly is good enough for this level yet because other than score a few last season to be fair he did sod all and looked out of his depth most of the time, but I think this is a good move for him and hopefully us too. I normally agree with a lot of what you post, but Nichols being a League 1 standard player?? Just....wow. Nearly choked on my Frys Chocolate Cream, when I saw that post Hugo. What is Socrates on?

" Sounds like GC is watery as hell Well it's his own fault. From 6 strikers? now what is left. JCH out injured and only one good season of consistent scoring. Nichols. Good form at scoring only in lowers leadues Deon Moore young and inexperienced. No history at this level. Tyler Smith Young and inexperienced at this level and no history Mensah out on loan Reilly out on loan. All the signals were there for Reilly to think he would not get a look in as GC has to play loan signing or they will be recalled. Ask DC re Mc Burnie etc IMO sounds like inexperience as a manger has kicked him in the nuts in handling players who think, real or imagined, they wont got a look in. I hope for everyones sake the young lonees grow up very quickly. Of course the transfer window is still open for the marque signing hehe

I think GC has a bit to learn about man management (not that we didn't know that already)

GC expecting Blackpool to have a new centre forward on Saturday, a player we wanted but can't compete with them on the wages .
