Its not about defending the club though. I can read numbers and there is a finite amount of money to spend. We have managed to bring in EIGHT players in this transfer window. Lets not pretend we havent been able to get anyone in and we still have til the end of the month And what a great showing those eight have put on at Blackpool, comfortable 2-0 defeat and none of the problems of last season addressed. I’m doubtful we are making the most of what little money we do have. Seems to be that once again JCH will have to carry us except this time we may not even have the defensive solidity to back him up. Whether we have made good use of our resources is a different question.
Norwich comfortably lost 7-1 in their first game 10 years ago, and they did alright.
I think we need at least 1 midfielder/winger. No argument on that front. We still have til the end of the month to see what we can get and it will be interesting to see what/who is potentially available when the championship window shuts in an hour and they have finished their business

I mean it's amazing when we could just be like Bury and sign everyone and oh.... Bury are 1 of 92 football league clubs but if it proves your point and means you can defend the club AGAIN then why not eh? They're also the one that a lot of people used as an example of who we should be emulating, in the close-season, 2 years ago. Scunthorpe are another team who a lot of people used as a great example of what we should be doing to stay up, in the transfer window, last January.

“Unless I can get favours, unless people are willing to do me a turn we might have to move one or two out and make adjustments here, there and everywhere to try and get what we want.
GC's starting to sound a bit desperate.

Looking at the likes of Oxford, Shrewsbury, Wycombe and Gillingham they seem to have had a good summer. Coventry are talking about a promotion push whilst playing at St Andrews potentially in front of less home fans than Gasheads next Saturday. Meanwhile we're facing another relegation battle if we've got to rely upon Nichols scoring for the next few weeks.

Leon Clarke has NOT gone to a championship club. Is this a genuine possibility now? Or any other Sheffield Utd players that we could get?

I guarantee he would score 15 plus goals, be a brilliant partner to jch, and for what he would cost if we had 2 free scoring forwards would put an extra 1k on attendance. Loan out Nichols as well

If GC is still after a striker like he says, then Sam Winnall would be one I'd love here.
It would obviously be ambitious, but he potentially has 3 or 4 other strikers ahead of him at Sheffield Wednesday and wasn't in the matchday squad at the weekend.
He would be quality and a real statement of intent, but that is also why I doubt it would happen!

Wes, I appreciate you said you doubt it would happen, but why post names that are simply pie in the sky? Have the last 3-4 windows not hammered home the point that we are not in the same ball park as clubs trying to sign proven scorers at this level or higher.

We couldn't afford a tin of Winalot to play up front. Which is a shame because the tin of Winalot would guarantee more goals than Nichols.

There lies the problem.
The last manager spent circa 500k on a pair of strikers who couldn't score.
Ones been shipped out and the other is still here, and for all his endeavour doesn't even look like scoring. Ever.
We're Bristol Rovers and 500k is a lot of money for us, its a lot of money for most clubs at this level. 500k at this level on 2 strikers should get you guys that can score more than 5 a season between them.
Thank god that GC managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat with JCH.

His monthly wage the last god knows how many years, would be upward of 15/20k. There is absolutely no way we could tempt such a player here, to the point there wouldn’t even be talks held. I’m all for optimistic but don’t lose sight of realism whilst we’re at it.

Assuming all this FM/takeover talk is genuine then it probably explains why GC's gone from signing "marquee" signings, even Scales, to begging for favours. Perhaps it also explains GC's odd "let's all pull together" comments last week. If the rumours are nonsense then the ALQ''s are using it as a convinant smoke screen, just hope something gives in the next week or two, or it'll be another long season.

But am I looking forward to it? No more than I`m looking forward to the next nine months at work.
