Its OK Pirate giving him 500 players who he could sign but how many of Pirates "recommendations" actually go on and sign for somebody else and do well?- not many I would say because the majority of his suggestions would be a risk and that is the problem. Quite a lot actually, but I suppose the standout ones have been Charlie Austin, Jamie Vardy, Sean Raggett, Marc Roberts, David Accam, Conor Washington, Marvin Johnson, Duncan Watmore, Lee Tomlin, Erhun Oztumer, Albert Adomah, Aden Flint, Joe Lolley, Jack Marriott, James Collins, Kieffer Moore and Gavin Whyte. Hah, love it. Mic drop. Boom. I'd have all / any of them now at Gas.

To be honest he has had the whole summer and doesn't seem to have addressed ANY of the problems that were glaringly obvious last season. Thats my issue. I know he had to replace Locks and the GK,which he seems to have done. But take JCH out and we are the same poor - no Im sorry...sh**e side going forward that we were in our final game in May. JCH is far from proven btw..and how does anything in his career before joining us prove that earlier this year was anything but a purple patch for him? - I dont think it was for the record, and he is the real deal, but still? Our attacking side of the team was why we were struggling, and DC got sacked. For GC not to address this as his 1st,and main area to improve this summer is crimial and will be the reason we could go down, and he loses his job if that happens. What in the first two games suggests otherwise? No width or creative play in midfield, and a shocking TN STILL STARTING UP FRONT - says Im sadly right. Exactly. it wasn't so long ago Kyle Bennett was the best thing since Muzzy Carayol so we have to hope JCH continues where he left off, otherwise im failing to see how we are going to win games. I am not for one moment proposing we sack GC as he has to have a decent crack of the whip with his own team, but initial signs are not promising unless he is able to get some top loans in fast (although as I said before he has had the whole summer).

. Problem is more probally have not made it. When you recommend so many player's, a lot of them are bound to make it. But on the other hand, a lot of them won't make it. I see GC mentioned signing player's from Ireland before. Any young quick Irish wingers, that you think could make it in England?? I think you have to be fair to Pirate here, he hangs his hat on some that he believes are ready to make it but if you read the majority of the posts they mention the player being worth a trial or a possible place in the development squad. Most triallists, and as we have seen, most development squad players do not make it...and Pirate is acknowledging this by what level of involvement in the players career he’s recommending. At least he’s doing some research beforehand! Yes I'm not having a go at him. His knowledge is unreal, you can see he does an awful lot of research. Just saying that it's not as easy that. As for everyone that makes it, there are probably 5 that don't. Plus some player's look good when thay are younger and don't develop, how you think they will. Check out the video of Nichols at Exeter. He was very young then, but scored all types of goals. Left foot, right foot, headers, free kicks, Penalty's etc. All in the football league at a very young age. He looks a completely different player. He wouldn't have the confidence to try and take a free kick now, or to try and lob the keeper etc. The Dutch keeper looked good on YouTube. Still only young for a keeper, so he might be ok. But he looked different during pre season, according to a lot of fans.

If this takeover happens then everything will be reviewed when new owners come in, it would be crazy to do anything now if this is an imminent possibility.
Coughlan is effectively on trial at the moment, if new owners arrive then they won't / shouldn't stick with him unless he is performing adequately, and by that I mean that the things he can control are going in the right direction, i.e. his signings and his style of play.

Personally, I think GC deserves a chance but anything less than 4 points from tonight’s cup game and Coventry and he has questions to answer.

My concern is that there may come a time to discuss this, but not yet. Given the low attendance for our first home game of the season, the team under GC need to give us reason to want to attend in bigger numbers. We need some interesting, attacking football, please! I think the weather put a lot of people off and lets face it a lot of people are away on holidays. I remember when the season started on the third week of August. Long before the Mickey Mouse trophy was invented

Long before the Mickey Mouse trophy was invented I’m on holiday hence not there. Watched on internet. I am a season ticket holder but many friends were also on holiday so couldn’t use the ticket. Season is way to early starting now.

This is ludicrous. We were heading to division 2. We all agree on that and we can all agree on the fact that it was GC that saved us. Now, his signings. 1.Little ex championship player or Clarke/ Partington, both Division one, with us. 2. JCH or Payne 3. Anssi or Smith in goal? 4. Victor or Nicholls?
He is building a side. It will take at least 2 seasons, as we need to get the likes of Upson an co replaced. We gave Clarke a season even after he had taken us in to the Conference. On here everyone is criticising Coughlin after 180 minutes of football where 2 of our best players are out with injury. # Only in Bristol

A clean sheet mind ! Basis of a solid side.

He doesn't have the charisma of DC and he inherited his rubbish, some have been replaced and when the contracts are up on one or two others they'll be gone as well - but at the moment we are stuck with them, they are costing the club a lot of money. If Little, THD & JCH were fit we would be seeing a totally different ball game based IMO on the way Luton played last season - fast, skilful overlapping fullbacks- providing the service to JCH and Adeb? (whats his name?). However we still need a playmaker to replace Upson or even Clarke. We are not far away from having a much better team than what we had this time last season.

1) Jaakola or Bonham = Bonham is a much better keeper and I believe he would have signed had DC still been here. We'll never know but we're now weaker between the sticks. 2) Little or J.Clarke = Could end up being Little but at the moment I'd rather have JC. Solid, reliable defender who can play anywhere across the back 4. Again, would have signed for DC. 3) Lockyer or Davies = Obviously Lockyer. No comparison needed. Personally think Davies is too slow to play alongside Craig.
4) Adeboyejo or Jakubiak = Tough one but the fact is GC wanted Jakubiak but couldn't persuade him to come so then turned to Adeboyejo.
Add to this his complete inability to sign any creative midfielders or wingers and in my opinion his transfer dealings have been poor. With the exception of JCH we have a far weaker squad now than the one he inherited back in December.
As I said, too early to call for his head but after the Lincoln game on September 14th we'll have played at least 10 games in all competitions, maybe more if we progress in the cup. If we're in the bottom 4 and still putting in performances similar to Saturday then it could be time to say goodbye.

Locks was intent on departing whoever remained as our manager? I'm not sure how we've jumped to having played 10 games when at the moment we've only played two plus the transfer window hasn't closed. We've 3 out of the next 4 games at home so we should have a better idea where we're heading this season once they've been played.

I may not like his style of play but he earned the chance to have a go this year with his performance in keepi g us up last time around. But lets get two things straight here. We were not doomed when he took over. We were in a very dangerous position and he kept us up, but keeping a team up from a position if being just 4 points adrift was no miracle, just a job well done. Second...Darrell Clarke did not take us into the Conference. John Ward did, which was a shame as he was a good manager and better bloke. The truth is that DC was boss for 8 of the 46 games that season. To say he took us into the Conference is twisting stats to suit your anti-DC argument.

Pirate, I think you do a fantastic job to look into all these players but the point I am making is that GC does not have the luxury to fail with any of his signings and I think you will agree that whilst you have some successes there are hundreds that don't succeed. If he signs a couple of duds then his future is in doubt as already people are getting on his back. We have to give him longer- a lot longer.

GC has identified the types of players required but it has been reported that the playing budget has been cut and the club up for sale. GC may need another couple of transfer windows.

Three more games and if we haven't won twice he's gotta go. discuss So do we still want him out? Depends if he reverts to type on Saturday. All very well being bullish in the cup, the question is why set out so defensively at home to one of the weaker sides in the division?

Totally agree. GC out. That was an utter disgrace. Didn't even try and change the game. Just made a like for like replacement with Nichols for Bennett. If we set up like that every week we may as well just take relegation now. Let's just hope Bury and Bolton can't oveturn 12 points so we've only got to finish above one other team.
