Hands up, I lambasted him last season at times but in his defence I did say his central defensive partner next too him could head or attack the ball.
I never thought I would say this, I was happy and relieved to see Tony in the team last night. I love and I believe we need his experience and communication on the pitch. This is a man who has won several promotions at Millwall with much worse critics as fans than us.
All this said as well, he’s playing well, winning his battles and he hasn’t been rinsed or exposed this season. Now with Davies next too him doing what proper centre halves should do and win your headers I believe we are seeing the best of Craig and Kilgour.
Long may the 5 at the back remain, THD would only make us better when fit as well. Keep up the talking Tone and doing the simple stuff👏🏻

I agree that the experience he brings to the team can only help the youngsters alongside him; a couple of times last night he swept up dangerous breaks to contain the Tranmere threat.
Onwards and upwards

Ideally our back 4 would be THD, Craig, Kilgour, Little.

Good shout.

Ideally our back 4 would be THD, Craig, Kilgour, Little. Are you for real, no Davies?! He has been our best CB of the three of them this season and should have a goal to his name as well, bloke is brilliant at winning his battles and especially in the air

Back 5 last night looked really good. Fixed To be fair, they all looked pretty good last night. Drag that performance into Saturday, game on.

No way should we be dropping Craig, so Kilgour for the bench it is?

It’s a tough one but going for the future you have to say Davies and Kilgour in a 4 but right now with no wingers I can’t see how we can do anything but the 5. Davies has to start over Kilgour and Craig because he’s the best in the air we have.

Felt more positive when I saw Brexit Tone on the team sheet, he brings a lot to the team and is unfairly under-rated by some of our supporters.

Davies and Kilgour are better headers of the ball against bigger strikers, are more mobile and are better passers of the ball than Tony Craig, but the 3 central defenders definitely worked well and made us more defensively sound last night. TC was effectively sweeping behind the other two and organising the others.
Given the full back / wing back options we have at the club, I can see this being the new pattern allowing Leahy/Kelly/THD/Little/Hare all to get further forward.

Haven't seen this season.
Didn't rate him at all last season.

Fully agree with OP - I’m definitely someone who’s undervalued Craig & what he brings to our side.
There’s a lot of high earners at this club who aren’t even coming close to justifying the wage they’re on. Craig is the total opposite - an extremely consistent and reliable player who never lets us down.

Quality signing IMO.
And yes, back 3 definitely suits us, albeit there will be times depending upon the opposition, situation in the game etc where we will need to revert to 4-4-2 etc. That's what DC was great at recognising and I'm hoping GC learna this too. Last night was a big step in the right direction for me.
