My answer would be that in comparison to the prices set by other clubs in this league, the cost to attend a Rovers game is actually quite decent but that said I think football in general can be fairly pricey these days. Season tickets are good value for money but if you want to POTD and want to bring more than 2/3 people then it does add up. More work needs to be done to attract a new generation of supporters and get them hooked. I’d love to see a game where entrance cost only cost a few quid to give people less well off or large families the chance to see Rovers and full the ground out at a reasonable price. Excellent post.

For me, a supporter who attends 5-10 games a season, the cost (among other things) is definitely a factor.
I had a free afternoon on Saturday and was deciding on what to do - but I ultimately decided that I wouldn't brave the elements to part with my hard earned money (ticket + bus fare + couple of pints + pasty) and decided to watch Soccer Saturday with a couple of cans from the fridge instead.

The same people not going and moaning it’s too expensive will be the same people who moan about a lack of investment. That’s way too broad a sweeping statement. There are a fair few who are on fixed incomes and have to budget for everything. I think you would be surprised how many want to go but can’t get lifts let alone talk of price to watch. As you know, it’s not just price of admission that is spent on a matchday. Factor in a couple of beers and some grub and you’re looking at around a £40 day, if you are careful. There have been plenty of requests, via twitter and other platforms, just to get to the game.

There has been plenty of talk as to why attendances are down. I suggest that it's more a case of getting back to normal. For three years I think that we benefitted from the Darrell factor - charismatic manager and two promotions on the bounce. As an irregular visitor to the Mem I thought I'd give some explanation as to what factors influence whether or not I go to games. As a background I typically watch 10 games a season with my two teenage sons (including two or three away games). In order of importance 1.Time/opportunity - with three children the opportunity isn't always there 2.Cost - it's a considerable cost to take the three of us. I'd like to see a few 'quid a kid' type promotions 3.Standard of football(entertainment) - I'd say that the last two years have been dreadful. I saw fewer games last season than usual. I thought todays game showed improvement 4.Keenness of my boys - if they want to go then I'll make more of an effort (bit of family bonding). Last year the oldest was bored with the football, this year he seems keener - partly explains why we've been to 4 games already. 5.Weather 6.Is it an important game? - like anyone else big games carry more weight 7.General air of negativity - I discovered this forum at the beginning of the year and whilst I find it fascinating my word is it depressing at times 8.State of the pasties - they used to be great and part of the matchday experience for my boys. Not so this year. . . . 99. Are we getting a new stadium? - Don't understand why this is a consideration 100. Are we getting new owners? - Again don't get it - it's not of the slightest concern on a matchday to me, my sons, my brother, my cousin, my colleagues or anyone else I know Agree with you. It’s nothing like it used to be, when my father would take 3 of us, ( tin hat ready) to both clubs home games. The game is now, very much, a business and I think there will be a fair few more like you.

I went in Blackthrone in the end as the cost of the ticket was £4 cheaper than the south Tent.I always buy a sausage roll, have a pint and get the bus from Kingswood to the Mem.So that adds up to a £40/£50 day spend.

My last few visits have to the mem have been what I refer to as 'smash and grab'.... This basically means no pub before, no food at half time, and no clubhouse afterwards.... This is purely because I can't justify the cost, and to be honest its borrox....

Watching football in Britain on the whole is too expensive, Rovers are pretty reasonable for the level but still quite pricey when compared to continental prices. Unfortunately Rovers have limited revenue streams because of our situation so I don't see prices dropping in the near future.

Although walking around a mansion in a brown dressing gown and a pair of slippers, knocking back the occasional red el vino does sound tempting....

As a little aside I'm going to Malaga - Fuenlabrada in November, the flights, hotel for one night and match ticket were £18 cheaper than the train and match ticket for Ipswich - Rovers.

Plenty of cheap flights about if you look hard enough, can do most trips for sub-£150 before booze. The Ryanair flights to Köln are worth looking into if anyone wants a cheap football, can get them for as little as £14 each way and the Rhine-Ruhr area is jam packed full of teams. If anyone does want to book something up, DM and I'll plan you decent games .

I only watched German football when I worked & lived there & I enjoyed the few games a few of us went to. Contrary to the stereotypes, we were made very welcome. My abiding memory is one of a train full of fans coming onto the train with a gert big brass horn instrument.

this thread was also about cheap offers to swell the crowd like Notts County did on Saturday. I have sent it to Steve Hamer and he thought it was a good idea. Would be so much better to have a full Mem backing the team in some of the games coming up, e.g. Mk Dons in 2 weeks.

Season ticket in East stand £410, roughly £18 a game good value I would say, nothing is cheap these days.

Any chance the Club can sell 'blocks' of tickets (ie 6 or 8 game packages)? I can't justify a season ticket as I live in London and there is no way I can get to a decent majority of the games. So I drive 300 miles (which is a lot of petrol) and then buy relatively expensive tickets individually. So the "it's only £12.50 a ticket" argument does not work for me. Some kind of half way house might help. I'll message Tom G.
