Is watching Rovers too expensive ?

very happy with the ST price I pay - can’t argue with £12.50 a game! If you want it to be cheaper then buy a ST! 😜

I think our prices offer relatively good value for money. There are teams in this league who charge £25 a game upwards. Yes facilities may be better but we're fairly cheap for a league one side.

We like to complain about the prices for refreshments but I swear a couple of years back someone posted that they're much higher at Ashton Gate and I think the price of football surveys show that too.

I feel very contented that my money goes towards the upkeep of the ground or people's wages. Compare that to a PL side where if nobody went it wouldn't make a difference.

Is that really necessary?

There has been plenty of talk as to why attendances are down. I suggest that it's more a case of getting back to normal. For three years I think that we benefitted from the Darrell factor - charismatic manager and two promotions on the bounce.
As an irregular visitor to the Mem I thought I'd give some explanation as to what factors influence whether or not I go to games. As a background I typically watch 10 games a season with my two teenage sons (including two or three away games).
In order of importance
1.Time/opportunity - with three children the opportunity isn't always there
2.Cost - it's a considerable cost to take the three of us. I'd like to see a few 'quid a kid' type promotions
3.Standard of football(entertainment) - I'd say that the last two years have been dreadful. I saw fewer games last season than usual. I thought todays game showed improvement
4.Keenness of my boys - if they want to go then I'll make more of an effort (bit of family bonding). Last year the oldest was bored with the football, this year he seems keener - partly explains why we've been to 4 games already.
5.Weather
6.Is it an important game? - like anyone else big games carry more weight
7.General air of negativity - I discovered this forum at the beginning of the year and whilst I find it fascinating my word is it depressing at times
8.State of the pasties - they used to be great and part of the matchday experience for my boys. Not so this year.

100. Are we getting new owners? - Again don't get it - it's not of the slightest concern on a matchday to me, my sons, my brother, my cousin, my colleagues or anyone else I know

I think there’s a general sense of uncertainty that is stopping people parting with cash, not the uncertainty at Rovers but the country generally. Talking with friends tonight who own or work within small businesses they all are having the same problem of falling custom. It’s a national trend and it would be interesting to see if other clubs at our level are experiencing the same drop in attendance.

I do also think there is a correlation between the football/success of the team contributing to our lower attendances but think this maybe coupled with the above.

It's a difficult one because the pricing is so inflexible, partly as mentioned because of the effect on season ticket holders.

Adjusted for inflation, a 1970 admission price would be about £10-£12 today, so almost half today's cost.

In a successful season, we do well, but very rarely sell out. How much of this is down to cost and how much to other factors like the stadium is difficult to judge


If a commodity is not in demand, the response of the market is to reduce the price, and vice versa for high demand.

So should we have been paying high prices following our consecutive promotions, and low prices after last year's mediocre display?

And perhaps a match against Accrington should cost £10, but a Sunderland ticket £30?

Flat pricing (I know there are exceptions) is a gamble, and I think clubs gamble on the high side. Far too high, in my opinion. I think your ordinary working fan is finding it a real struggle to attend every home game, and bringing the family along is not going to happen.

Maybe we should go the whole hog and do a Ryanair.

Book Accrington six months in advance and it's £3. Book Pompey the day before and it's £50.

Yeah at £12.50 a game I can’t think of better value for money in these times than that.
Maybe if you paid £20 on the gate and you weren’t gas but just went along with mates and it was utter sh**e and we got beat 1-0 then not value for money , but I can’t say for sure because I’ve never been in that situation.
